Default air/smog pump removal question

i've read several members have opted to drive their xj6s without the air/smog pump. i want to do the same. i had to remove it to gain access to the compressor. it was a simple matter of disconnecting two 1" rubber hoses, a small rubber hose, a wiring connector and the bolts. do i have to plug the pipes that the hoses connected to? will there be any negative effects like a dash board idiot light or performance degradation? i've attached a photo of air/smog pump installed on my 1987 xj6:

That pipe that goes around the front of the cylinder head goes to the air cleaner housing. It really doesn't have to be plugged but you'll probably want to remove it for de-cluttering purposes. Then cap off the nipple on the air cleaner just to keep things tidy.

The hose to the multi-branch air injection manifold can be removed.

The air injection manifold can be removed as well, but you'll need to plug the holes in the cylinder head.

If you leave the manifold in place make sure the one-way check valve is working. If not, exhaust gases will be blowing past the valve and into the engine bay.

Cheers
DD

I'd remove the whole shebang, including the air injection pipes into the manifold. Cleans up the top of the engine a bit. I did it on an '84 and based on recommendations here plugged the holes with some hex socket plugs from mcmaster carr. Perfect fit. No dash lights or anything.

McMaster-Carr part number 4860K131 British Standard Threaded Brass (BSPT) Pipe Fitting 1/8 Pipe Size.

FYI, Anyone who lives in California will NOT be allowed to remove this component from the system on any car newer than December 31, 1975.

Thanks for the McMaster-Carr part number. Worked like a charm! ('76 XJ6C)

The actual size is 3/8-24 set screws from Amazon. I purchased the 3/4" and they sit a bit lower than flush. 1" would have been more aesthetically pleasing. I made sure the set screw was completely seated.

This is a ser3 head....

Hey ! The E Type gold is pretty, but not proper for the XJ which are silver.

I was under the impression the gold is for "High Compression" motors. Definitely not for the 4.2 or XJ. But since this motor has 9:1 compression, triple Webers, 420 manifolds and a 5 speed, I opted for "Pretty". Thanks!

My reason for the set screws was there would be less of an area for carbon deposits to accumulate... OCD
