Default Alternator

Hi all

I've got a blown diode in my alternator, I'm currently trying to get a new rectifier pack for it (Lucas A133 65 amp) but the only chap selling them on ebay won't ship to my neck of the woods, well, he won't respond to my emails either. So I'm wondering if anyone has upgraded their alternator to maybe a better model, not that I have any problems, but I do fancy being able to get spares for it. The rate of charge at low revs could be a little better too... Any models that just drop right in? I'd love to know.

Many thanks

Nathan,

This may help a tad.

Bosch here are plentiful, as are XJ40 scrappers.

Thanks a lot Grant, that solved that, got plenty XJ40 spares down here too, I'll go with that.

Strange question, is this alternator that is used on the XJ40 the same one used on the late model 6.0 litre V12?

Not sure on that one, maybe.

Bosch have used the same diameter shaft for years, so removing the Multi Pulley and fitting a suitable "V" pulley was simple.

Earlier XJ40 ran a "V" pulley alternator, and I am not sure when the change to Multi V took place.

Nathan: the alternator used on the later Series III V12 cars was a Bosch unit, 115 amps, much more than adequate for the V12 with all options.

Gregory, I believe we are talking about the same alternator here, I do stand to be corrected though... There's a chap down here with what looks like a warehouse full of old Jaguar parts, I've asked for the Bosch 115 amp alternator, awaiting a reply.

Just to finish this post off, I ended up with a 75 amp Bosch unit (chap didn't have the 115 amp units) that came off an XJ40, no need to bore any holes out, it pretty much dropped right in, but it is a tight fit down there, all I needed to do was obtain a v belt pulley for a Bosch alternator (local auto electrical chap had) and grind / sand down a little half-moon on the front of the front mount, plus 2 washers to allow the adjuster to line up, works well.

Nathan:

One of my favorite words applies here!

DONE!!!

Non Jaguar stuff on the list seeking "done".

1. Finding a recycle site for my defunct VIZIO tv and EPSON printer.

Good part, their replacements work so well!!! VIZIO and EPSON again...

2. Crossed fingers and toes:
A. Jaguar purrs!!
B. GOTTA get the Jeep past the SMOG test...

Daughter brought lunch yesterday. YUM, yum,. BBQ, Texas style, pork ribs, chicken and brisket....

Sounds like you've got your hands full Carl, one "done" job on a Jag often leads to another one to get "done".

I had to sleuth around for part numbers, to make life easier, the Bosch part numbers are al191x for the 75 / 90 amp unit (whichever it is, some sites seem to differ, looks like I might have 90 amps after all) and al192x for the 115 amp model.
