Default Antenna 'kill switch', where to connect??

I have an iPod adapter for my 1987 Series 3 radio and want to put in a 'kill switch' to the antenna so it doesn't go up and down when I turn the radio on. I put one in my XK8 and it was easy as the antenna wire ran under the console box. Before I go tearing into the car to find the wire from the radio to the relay or antenna, can anyone tell me where it might be located and if possible which one (color) it might be? Thanks.

Mmmmm.

I use the "antenna" signal from the rear of the head unit, usually a Blue wire, from memory, haha.

I think??, the loom to the rear of teh car runs down the LH side of the console, but it has been a loooooong time.

As Grant says, on these cars with normal single DIN stereos, easiest is to cut the wire behind the stereo.

The wire col our eludes me right now....... Blue or blue with white stripe is the new standard for aftermarket radios..... Unfortunately the Jag coloring on this age of car is different.

It should be relatively easy to work out by process of elimination.

You have 8 speaker wires which will be paired as colour/colour with black stripe. Then black ground. Then 2 solid col our power feeds, one ignition, one constant for memory. Then the "other" wire will be the antenna feed. For switch location, if you don't have lots of smoking people in the car, you can remove the interior of one of the ashtrays (just pull it straight up and out) and put the switch in there. I have done this for several switches in my XJS, which has the same ashtrays.

"Probably" the wire wire at the back of the radio.

Go to the "How To Quick Link" thread at the top of this section. There you'll find the "S57 Wiring Guide". Go to the "late radio antenna section"

The S57 is quite good but in this particular case is a bit vague...probably because of the variety of radios used over the years. Your '87 will have the "Late Alpine" type.

Cheers

I dunno what an '83 would have, but it wouldn't be a "late Alpine".
