The rubber pads do not go on the trunk lid. They are fitted to the body panel edge below the trunk lid. You should be able to see the holes for the screws. Difficult to see in this photo but you can see the edge of the rubber pad on the body opening directly below the V12 badge (just below the bottom edge of the trunk lid). Too bad the car isn't white!
Much more clear on this one - but the pads attach to the body, not the lid, with the narrow edge of the buffer at the outside.
The purpose of the chip guards was to prevent the lid from touching the opening if the lid was to be slammed.

and we all know Jaguar boot lids are never to be slammed - an action reserved for uncouth mercedes and bmw’s of similar vintage - but instead are to be closed gently as befits their elegance.
outside of the rubber seal, at the bottom of the opening channel, one on each side of the center metal catch.
They are incorrectly ilustrated or positioned in the illustration.
And note:....this sticker should be on the black opening panel - and also note also the missing hyphen on the German line. This error was on the very late (1992) version (the is the trunk of #92/100):
All good info - thank you. Does the screw fasten from underneath as the illustration shows? Does the "ramp" face forward or rearward?
Installation is child’s play, or perhaps infants’ play. Small screw, fitted into the buffer from the top and into the panel. Absolutely no chance if error, but the narrow end goes to the outside, as stated.
The parts illustration is completely wrong and therefore misleading.
