Choke Cable jumping out of Carb when released
When I start the car with a cold engine I use my manual Choke and the car starts just fine. Once the engine has warmed a little, the Choke is released but instead of fully releasing at the Carb end, the outer conduit jumps out of it's orifice on the Carb, leaving the Choke half on!
Obviously this means that the engine ends up running overly rich with a resulting increase in fuel consumption.
How can I secure the Choke cable at the Carb end? I'm running twin HS8 SU Carbs.

You had a drink yet ?????????.
I used JB Weld on ours, and no issues. SUPER clean first, as in p/pack carby cleaner clean. there are LOTS of these Super epoxy glues these days, so choice is better than the older days.
From memory I slid the inner cable UP the outer a bit first (ours was the single strand cable, not the multi strand type), and then glued the outer in place, and slid the inner back in the next day.
I also added a spring to the choke return arm at the end of the inner cable, coz the carby clothes peg style springs were a tad weak.

Cherren,
Your car may NOT have a manual choke. It was not a Jaguar item.
The original set up was an "electric choke", or on some an AED. Some markets called it a 3rd carby, or starter carby. This unit is between the 2 main carbies, and easily identified as what it is.
These "starter carbies" were thermo switch operated, and became very unreliable as age crept in, and maintanence dropped off.
Most owners converted to the manual choke, with a lever up alongside the bonnet release lever.
The HS series of carbies (SU) are simple to convert. The HD (SU) can be done but are more involved. No idea on the Strombergs.

Hi Woz,
I had a similar issue this year. My inner cable is single strand as Grant eluded to earlier.
I just undid the lock nut and screw on the end of the cable and pulled it up into the outer cable then set the outer cable to its place with Selly's "no more nails" (any silicone sealer will do)and left it overnight to set. Reset the inner cables the next morning.
10,000 miles has passed since then. No more problems.
HS8's, you might find the link below interesting.

EDIT oops, just realised this was a two year old thread...sorry.

I have purchased a manual choke kit from SU in Sydney, and was looking for ideas where to place the knob, keeping with the classy Jag dash, I am looking for the E type lever but not much luck so far. All of the knob location I have seen on the web r quite ugly

You have a series 1 jag, I like this style dash because it's similar to the E type config.
My cable just has a black round knob on the end no writing, very exciting-not.
If you don't mind me asking where did you buy your choke cable from please
Cheers
