Default Engine compartment wiring covers

Help!

I've always liked the engine bay wiring covers. After 1982 or so Jaguar stopped installing them but I always liked them so bought a set from David Boger for use on my '85.

There are three covers. The location of two is easy to determine...forward atop the inner fenders...but there's the third one has me stumped. I simply cannot figure out where it would fit.

The picture shows one the two forward covers in place. The mystery cover sits atop the fender.

Can anyone tell me where the mystery cover should be located? Or perhaps have a picture?

Or maybe David will see this post and remember the fitment

100 thanks,

Cheers
DD

My thought as well but I've done everything except stand on my head trying to find how it might be positioned. It interferes with everything.

I'll try again in a few days....maybe a look with fresh eyes will yield an "Aha" moment !

Cheers and thanks

I'm wondering if that one isn't a LH cover for a carbureted car. I seem to remember something about them being different than FI cars.

Then again, I've slept a time or two since then......... Things get hazy.

I just had a thought myself....

Were these covers also used on older XJSs? If so, maybe I got an XJS piece that has no place at all?

Cheers

Doug: jaguar deleted these covers as a cost-saving measure (they must have saved about $0.75 per car) at the end of the 1981 model year (they also eliminated for a short time the map pockets at the rear of the front seats for the same reason - but that did not last long. The wiring covers were gone for good though...)
I retrofitted the covers to my 1982 car (the white one - do you remember it?) and I can tell you that there were only two, not three covers. The extra one you have is not from a Series III fuel injected car as far as I know.

I remember the car, Gregory. As I recall it was what with biscuit....same as my present '85.

Thanks for the info on the covers. I'll quit trying to solve the mystery.

Cheers

unless it is for the spark plug wires back to front, top of cylinder head between the cam covers. My '65 S type had something similar called a 'Loom'. It fell apart, made of some type of cardboard.

No, it is not a cover for the spark plug wires - the Series III never had any such cover.

Doug - that white 82 xj6 was my first Jaguar and you might remember that I did a "rolling restoration" on it, replacing every worn/scratched/faded piece anywhere on the car - and ended by replacing the interior entirely, replacing every bit with new OEM leather and door panels, and raising it to the level of a Sovereign with reading lamps, console extension, rear headrests etc.
I loved that car and it is still going strong with a friend in Louisville, Kentucky. Sadly, I have only one photo of it...

Turns out it is the LH cover for a Series II.

The Series II cars has the headlight relay mounted near the radiator rather than the inner fender mounting found on the Series III cars...thus the longer length

Still looks to me as if it should/ could mount above the/ further back from the existing cover. Maybe with a bit of modification, it would look good.
It seems as thought the holes would line up with the bolts on the bonnet/ hood mechanism.
