Default engine swap

I was thinking of putting a motor and tranny in my JAG but my question is my car is a 87 xj6 series III and the motor would come out a 82 series III and I was wondering if those 2 years are compatible with each other. Thanks in advance

The basics are the same.

A couple possible differences would be with or without air injection (an '87 would have it for sure) and early versus late cooling system: water pump, water rail, cooling fan, etc.

Cheers

Hmmm... An 82 engine sits in the disaster zone for block cracking between the bores. Your 87 engine will have the slotted block which eliminated this. Why do you want to swap ?

I came across a motor and tranny for 200 and was gonna grab it and rebuild it. Is this a good idea or should I pass on it. I'm new to Jaguars motors and I appreciate all of you and your knowledge
