Default Fuel filter size

I put a pre pump filter in long ago. Which I'm now happy I did since it's caught a few pieces of left over rust pieces recently. The problem that hopefully someone can help me with is, the fuel line is 1/2" and I put in the cleanable glass filter that is 5/16". The morons at the auto store couldn't find any filter with 7/16" or 1/2" nipples. I've had to cut pieces off time and time again cause the clamps have to clamp so far down that they cut into it and develop leaks. anyone got a good part number or some type of fix?
I think it's making my pump work hard a bit also since there is a restriction before it, but i guess it's not as big a deal as the clamp cutting the hose.

I had to ask cause I just went outside of the hotel room and noticed the gas under my trunk where it started leaking last night and had to get in there and cut off another little piece of the hose.

WIX 33299 has 1/2" nipples.

If the local parts store doesn't carry WIX brand I'm sure they can interchange that part number

Cannot remember the part number.

Wix make a 1/2" fuel filter. We sell a few at work for the Skyline type guys as pre filters etc.

That small outlet/inlet you have installed will be causing the fuel pump all sorts of grief.

Just googled Summit racing, and they have a GF333 1/2" in/out fuel filter @ $11.97, that is what you need, and change it regularly.

I used two Napa Gold 3299 filters to install the prefilters in my '85 XJ6 (recommended by this forum). They fit fine but they are steel can types, so you can't see inside.

Just in case anyone cares, the NAPA and Wix filters are the same. Different box, same filter !

Has anyone ever found a glass (clear) filter, with 1/2" nipples? I've been keeping my eye out and occasionally looking for a couple of years, but never have found anything.

Thanks, Andrew.

i dont care for glass fuel filter housings, i have seen them crack and leak gasoline!
also those early glass filters had a high micron numbers, could/ let small particles of dirt thru and screw up the fuel injectors, carbs can handle larger particles, not so with injectors!
quick thought! if you plugged just one injector,BUT only half plugged would the cylinder run lean compared to the others, engine could, may burn a piston or blow a gasket!
fuel injection engines have different problems relative to carburators.

ever wonder why Jag used , for there F/I engines ,such a large capacity filter? that Ford copied for there engines!

I honestly HATE them!!! I was driving across country one time. Got to Wendover Utah/Nevada border (literaly on the border)when the filter came loose of broke, sprayed gas all over the engine compartment (IN A FREAKIN BLIZZARD) and burn my truck to the ground. Cops came put me in the cop car (about 50 feet away, cause he was on the border and couldn't cross it), and I sat there and watched it burn slowly. The blizzard was so bad that the fire department took so forever long, that it was almost completely burnt out and the lead melting the body panels apart by the time they got there.
This is the first time since then that I've bought one and really don't like having it. AT ALL!
I hope that NO ONE ever has to go through that.

You may be forgetting this is just a pre filter, the fact that mightn't filter every micron isn't an issue, because its still doing more than the factory setup, there is still the fuel pump and then a high pressure inline filter.

While a glass filter isn't ideal, its what Jaguar used in the MK2 and it worked fine, there's no pressure in them at all, as it's before any pump, even the MK2 filter had the low pressure pump before it.

Good point! although if something were to happen to it, i'd end up with an empty tank and a huge mess to clean up. I will feel much better with a metal encased filter.
