Default Gas tank drain seal C26310

I was looking for the drain plug seal, #11 in this diagram, part number C26310......

https://www.jaguarclassicparts.com/u...ings-5-3-litre

NAPA part # 730-9506 is a perfect fit

https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/BK_7309506

This is where an experienced parts guy really saves the day. He took one look at the old one and said "Wait a minute....I'll be right back. I think we have something that'll work". Sure enough, he disappeared for a couple minutes and then returned with a perfect replacement. Never opened a catalog, never touched his keyboard.

The old pros don't solely rely on "year, make, and model" and then shrug their shoulders if there isn't a listing in their e-catalog.

Anyhow, just a little tidbit that I hope might be useful to someone

Cheers
DD

Ditto:

There are a few older guys still at it. and, a few younger ones seem to be getting the hang of it.

in my area, the Autozoners and Advance Auto Parters are total illiterates, they can't even match a hose without telling you "I need an application". Young lazy kids who don't want to bother. All this while they're looking at their cellphone.

However, you go to an older NAPA or an older CarQuest store, and you find the older employees who can match parts "by ear" without going through the stupid computer routine.

It is a shame that the older wiser employees are being displaced by these young jackasses who can't pass an Automotive Parts test. Corporate Greed (translation: low wage employees), is ruining the auto parts business.

I also miss the Sears catalogs, they used to sell excellent quality auto parts in the 1960's through the 1980's.

Perhaps a bit unorthodox, but I was in need of this same gasket when I was cleaning out my tanks. Went to my miscellaneous gasket kit and found the gasket for the distributor on a small block Chevy worked. Hasn't leaked in 13 years...somehow?

And yes, a good parts guy is worth more than an exhaustive internet search!

For the record I had a leaking drain seal in one of my tanks when i bought the car. I stretched an o ring around it and tightened it down and it never leaked. I planned on getting the right seal for it when i got the chance but I ended up forgetting about it entirely until I had to replace the tanks last week ( two years later ).

Damn, I glanced at this and mistakenly assumed you meant the washer for the plug itself. Surprised to pickup my order from NAPA and find gaskets significantly bigger than expected.

What type of washer do the drain plugs use?

The washer for the smaller drain is Jaguar Sealing Washer, Fuel Tank Drain, Etc. - C26311

And the rubber seal where the filter goes is Jaguar Gas Tank Seal, Rubber, On Bottom - C26310/

My other drain plug had an aluminum washer on it, so I annealed some copper washers and will see how those do.
