Red face How to identify the Air Condition - Series 2

Hello

hopefully not a too stupid question: How can I make sure that a V12 Coupé from 1975 has an air condition or not? According to the manual it was - at least for the Swiss market - a standard feature. As i am technically not really a specialist - where is the compressor located or what other clear proof of the exstenc of an A/C system exists?

The reason for the question is that the man who sold me the car says, there is no air condition and I just think that it is there but not working.

Thank you in advance for a short answer.

Hans

Hans:

No question is stupid. Au contraire, the failure to ask is!! Old factoid!

I don't know the V12. I think any AC compressor would be found between the cylinder banks and up forward.

So, Start at the crank drive pulley, low, central and forward. Identify the other pulleys and what they drive. Probably, power steering, alternator, water pump, etc. If a USA car, possibly an air pump!!

Now, an AC compressor would be very likely a Harrison by GM. A longish cylinder with a clutch and pulley on the end. Also check for two largish black hoses that would be the refrigerant lines.

Another clue is whether or not a condenser is in front of the engine cooling radiator. Again a finned rectangle with two black refrigerant hoses leading away.
If present, the car had/has AC. if absent, it doesn't now!!

Then, in the cabin. Check the controls on the fascia! Heat and cool choices or merely heat! As these cars used a climate control system, the controls might be a bit ambiquos.

My late wife and I married in your beautiful country in 1954. Basel to be exact!!
A couple of years ago, I needed a copy of the license. The clerk at the Standesamt was so courteous and cooperative. Done by E and snail promptly.

Enjoy

Carl

Thank you very much, Carl. This helped me a lot and I will now be able to get back to the seller who obviously tried to get away with a rather silly assertion....

Nice to hear you married in Basel - a very nice town with a lot of culture.

Best regards
Hans
