Default ignition switch voltage loss 0.8V

I measure a voltage loss of 0.8V over the ignition switch. Can one open it and is there a trick?

Some more info might help with repsonses

What model are you dealing with?

What problem are you trying to fix?

Why is 0.8V wrong?

Yep, same as the S2 I have done too many times.

I open them INSIDE a plastic bag, like a freezer bag.

There is a SMALL spring and pawl inside. It WILL NOT fly out, but if you drop it, that guy Murphy will steal it.

Take your time, take it careful, clean and lube, and rebend the tabs, SIMPLE.

0.8V is way too much IMHO

Yeah, 12 v in ? 11.2 V out? Plenty enough to make all loads function.

CAVEAT: I opened my switch on the bench prior to the bag idea. Not good !!! Although I worked over a pan, stuff got lost.

A NOS switch from David Boger fixed many ills !!!

A voltage drop of 0.8V on maybe 20 Amps is high for a switch. Whats NOS? How does it function?

AKA NOS. Popular acronym. New Old Stock. Luck finds them. Mine came from David Boger at everydayxj. Posts here from time to time. An all around good guy.

Not to disparaqe Grant's skill in fixing stuff. Really to admire !!

R=E/I 0.8V/5A = .16ohms 0.8V/10A = 0.08ohms 0.8V/20A=0.04ohms

I dont know what problem you are chasing , but there doesnt seem to be excessive resistance in the switch. Always fun to tinker though.

Yr right. I measure 8 AMps in KO position; 0.1 ohm seems acceptable.
