Never seen this in a car before. '87 xj6 only in the left side fuel tank. Any idea why a rubber hose is in my filler? I gave it a little tug and it feels attached to something.
Yes, I just bought the car last week. I'm trying to get in touch with the previous owner but haven't heard back yet. Your suggestion of the tank leaking makes sense. I am new to Jag and thought this might be some kind of breather. Thanks...........Jack.
Someone tried to siphon gas out of your tank and their hose got caught on the anti-siphon flapper just under the filler neck. They just cut it off and left it. If you use a thin pick or screwdriver to hold the flapper open (it's spring loaded), you can pull the hose out.
Ahhh, now that makes even more sense. Maybe I'll just leave it there as a quick connect should I need to siphon a gallon or two for the lawnmower. Don't you just hate it when your hose gets caught in a flapper?
post script, I think you are right. I did as you suggested and retrieved the hose with some judicious twisting and turning. Hope I didn't upset the level sensor. They did use proper fuel line so I'll give them credit for that. Your Hershey bar is in the mail. Thanks..........Jack. I'm getting this beast sorted out bit by bit, one lo beam, one hi beam, one fog light, dashboard brake light on, horn steering column ground contact, horn fuse holder (duct taped together), steering column support bracket bolt and now the fuel tank filler.
