Jaguar 1984 4.2 Ballast Pack
Cheers Everyone,
Chasing a crank no start on a series 3 4.2L. I’m following the informative checklist from Doug D., and I’m at a step (step 11). Spark plugs light, and fuel pump circuit works. Fuel gets to the fuel injectors, however injectors won’t squirt, determined by dry spark plugs. When I sprayed starting fluid into cylinders it started. Now I’m on testing fuel injector circuit. Doug wrote that the ballast pack needs to have voltage when the key is in the on position. Can’t figure out which module is the ballast pack.

It's silver, about the size of a pack of smokes, located sown low on the RH inner wall of the engine bay, roughly across from the power steering pump

Thanks Doug! I tested the main relay on the firewall (the relay next to the fuel pump relay) and get 12.5v when key is on. The white wire shows that 12.5v. I’ll find a relay and replace it. See if it starts after that.

There's a white/black wire from the coil "-" post that runs aft along the water rail. Make sure it's in good shape. It's a trigger wire to the fuel injection ECU
At the rear of the water rail is a bundle of black ground wires. There's are grounds for the entire injection system. Check/clean/tighten.
Cheers

Update,
I disconnected the wire that goes from negative post of the coil along the water rail and into a large white wiring connector. I have continuity all the way from the coil terminal end to the connector. I took a power source and was able to ground the power source off of the bundle of black wires on the water rail. What’s next? Disconnect the ECU and check for continuity there? Puzzling.
Thanks for all all your advice Doug,
Alan

I finally have gotten back to the no start issue. Swapped out fuel control ECU just for the hell of it (had a spare in parts bin). Grounds are clean and secure, trigger wire from the coil is in good shape. Continuity all the way to the wiring harness and to the other side of connection. I’m absolutely stumped.
