Lift points on a 1959 3.8 6 cyclinder
In a couple of days I'm going to be removing my first 3.8 engine and standard transmission from an MKI.
I've removed and installed several Chevy SB V8's and straight 6 engines but never a Jaguar a 3.8. I have not seen the car in person and I'll be driving 400 miles to pick it up, I want to be as prepared as possible.
Where are the best lifting points on a 3.8?
Do I need to make a couple steel plates to bolt to the block or head?
Is it possible to remove the engine and transmission together or do I need to pull them separately?

There should be factory lifting brackets in the valley of the engine, that go under the head studs. One in front, one in back. That being said, looking at some photos of Mark 1's, I don't see the brackets. See here for brackets: https://forums.jag-lovers.com/t/xk15...moval/428698/7
Space is tight to remove engine and trans together. If you have the height it can be done, the problem is usually the tail shaft of the transmission hitting the ground as you tilt the engine up.

I just picked up a 4.2 and 3 1/2 with a Moss transmission and overdrive.
The 4.2 had a small silver disk glued to the block with "GUARNTEE VOID IF REMOVED" printed on it. Is this possibly a rebuilders tag?

Yesterday, I pulled a 3 1/2 engine with a Moss transmission from a 1959 MKI. The engine was supposed to have been 3.8, ended up being a 3 1/2.
The 3 1/2 engine is a much earlier engine than what was used in 1959 MKI, correct?
The engine is not totally locked and will turn a few degrees easily. The transmission also has an overdrive.

you can get a pair of those brackets from David at www.everydayxj.com The original lifting brackets in the 3.4 and 3.8 cylinder heads were "U" shaped and I don't trust them. Use the ones for the 4.2 engines.
I'm looking for seals and possibly synchronizer parts for a Moss 4 speed with overdrive.

I checked the transmission today and it would not shift into any gears. After removing the top cover it turns out it has all new gears and bearings, possibly new synchronizers too. With the transmission in neutral the output shaft was still engaged. It appears the person that assembled it has installed the internals incorrectly. Does anyone know where I could get an exploded view of the transmission or any assembly information.

I suspect you are floundering in the wrong part of the forum and you should be in the MK1, Mk2, Stype and 420 area.
There is a lot of expertise in that area which can easily respond to your questions.
The Jaguar MK1 and Mk2 manuals have exploded views of the Moss gearbox.
Also be aware that the gear selector (and top plate) of a moss box needs lubrication and suffers from sticky O rings.
