I am new here. I am working on a Cobra Kit car that has a Jag rear end. I need help in finding replacement rear shocks for it. I have no idea what year or model it is from. The Kit car was built in 78 or 79, so it would have to be out of a car before that. The name and numbers on the shocks are Girling Decarbon 64052458A 3MR8. I have done muliable google searches on that number and found nothing. I ordered some KYB, KG9122 shocks that I thought would fit, but the mounts for the springs that came with them are to big for my springs. There are two tags under the cover bolts, one has 2.85 on it which I think is the gear ratio, as that is about right for the number of turns the pinion makes to get one turn of the axle, the other has a BP.L on it, which I think it means a posi which it has. None of the parts places have dimensions of the shocks, so I can't even go by that. Any help would be appreciated

Welcome to the forums Wade,
I've copied your post from the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum to XJ6 & XJ12 Series I, II & III for help and advice from members who will be most familiar with the Jaguar IRS.
As long as you retain the springs you have, any Jaguar XJS rear shock will be fine. Standard Boge or better still but pricier, GAZ or AVO adjustables, or any other brand you like.

That part number looks correct for 70-80s vintage XJ6-XJ12-XJS
I wonder if your IRS (or at the least the springs?) might be from and E-type/XKE or 60s vintage sedan? The spring may be sized differently on those cars. Just thinking out loud
@69firebirdracer , very interesting post .I'm fairly new here as well , I have a Unique MFG. replica cobra . These guys here really went to bat helping me out with my Jag rear end . I've always been a hot rodder type guy and did not know anything about Jaguars , but these guys sure do . What is your cobra's make ? Look at my posts , they are enlightening , not from me but the help I received .Good Luck with the cobra .
There seems to be a wild card here. Jaguar salon engineered shcks would not be the best for the much lighter cobra replica. Seems that shicks designed for the E cars would be a better choice.
Decades ago, Carrera shicks were elite. thir tech offered assistance in selction of the right combination. Based on angle of installation and the wieight of the car at the shock location. . Still in existance??? I don't knpo.

Thanks
That is why I got those shocks, but the spring mounts didn't fit inside the spring. The ID of my springs are 2 1/2" and 9 1/4" long. Do you know if that sounds right for the 70's models?

I too have been working on cars since the early 70's, mostly GM cars and trucks, but never messed with the Jag. I don't know who made this kit there is a tag on the door pillar that says 1979 Cobra, Guldstrand, vin number, Custom Built For Van Parkman, it has the Jag rear end, and a MGB front crossmember and suspenssion, with GM disc brake adapted to it. I have tried to search if Dick Guldstrand ever built Cobra Kits, can't find anything
At 2 1/2" ID and 9 1/4" long, your springs are considerably smaller that my 1985 XJ6. I'm only mentioning this as an observation, I don't know the dimensions of earlier IRS springs. Couple of pics.

Thanks, that looks great
What is the part number on your shocks?
I talked with a guy at Moss Motors Auto Parts. He looked up my Girling shock number I took off, and he said from the Girling book he has, it shows the shock is from a XJS. Anyone here know the inside dia. of the springs for a 1976 XJS with inboard brakes?
