Does anybody have any experience with these Lucas PL700 7" headlamps. Are they brighter than the 7" sealed beams? They are on sale at XK's Unlimited for $62.00.

No experience.

But........

This is really a vintage style-- 1940s-50s. If they're true duplicates of originals (are they?) I have to wonder if the optics are as good as modern designs. You might be making a down-grade step.

Let's hear what others have to say

Cheers

I actually found this from Moss Motors this morning. They are not impressed with them, even though they sell them.

Here is what I have used in my 1960s and 1970s cars:

They look stock, are significantly brighter and have a replaceable halogen bulb unit.

Same lights I have. I'd suggest shopping around though - Moss are kinda pricey for things like this and 7" H4s are available in many places.

Agreed. The Moss listing was a FYI kind of thing. The European standard units are available from Quadrarec (no affiliation) for $37.12:

The above, while not US DOT approved, provide a superior light "cut off" and in my experience will not attract unwanted attention from local law enforcement...

pjprofili - I'll assume because you are from CA that these lights your are recommending are for LHD cars? Even though they are European? Many thanks for the recommendation. They are not expensive either.

I'm actually in GA (fixed that in my profile) - but, yes I'm in the US and you can source the H4s for both left and right hand setups. (Most of Europe - in fact all once Brexit happens - drive on the same side as we do, after all!)
