Everything is rebuilt including the converter, new cooler installed as well. The reason for doing a higher speed run is the pcm was retuned and transmission files.were altered as well, i can hook laptop to car as it is obd1, and can watch commanded gears, at 45 mph it atill hadnt commanded 4th, and you are correct what i was feeling was the tcc, therefore i need to drive it at a higher speed to see if 4th ever gets commanded.
i have a spare pcm that has a stock tune on it, so if i cannot get 4th gear commanded i can swap the comouter out, but would have to go in and disable the vats first.
i dont have any trouble.codes, but i do get an error on the scan software when trying to read it saying tps raw value incorrect, however tps is working correctly as i can also watch it, i can watch the sweep and the voltage.
soni have a couple of things to try before i take it back to trans shop.

Been a while since updated, sorted out the vats on spare pcm, even uploaded a hotcam tune to it as well, well now i can see her commanding 4th, but its not happening. Goes into neutral. If i put it in drive and not overdrive she runs fantastic, torque converter lockup happens as it should, however every once in a while when slowing down it would feel like no engine braking in 2nd, anyways, i took it to transmission last Saturday (not the 4th, one before) they wanted me to leave it. Last week they had it nailed down to a bad servo, so ordered a new one, no joy, tried different length servo rods, no joy, now they are thinking that the new 2nd and 4th band has let go, so they are pulling it out and dismantling again.... no telling when i will get car back... I wanted to go the Hagerty drive in movie this weekend in St Augustine, looks like thats out.

More to follow when i know more..

Darren

Sounds like your choice of transmission shops was poor. Hope they can sort out the problem for you soon.

It always makes me suspicious when the shop starts throwing new parts into something that doesn't work.
I always think it's because they don't really know what's wrong in the first place but don't have the spine to admit it.

Meanwhile, the meter is running, they have your car hostage, and by the time you get the bill you might have been better off to just buy a whole new assembly.
But you never know that until later, Well after they've taken all the fun out of it anyway.

Oh me!!!

1. Their bill, but you pull and replace the trans on on your bill!!

2 Jaguar -specialties has an interface to defeat VATS sans messing with the chip.

3. Were it my car and if I were asked, neither is the case here. I would use a stock PCM.

4 I have a scanner. It is for OBD I . I can read data . Kinda fun!! although, at the time, I had limited knowledge on just what I could make of it. I don't recall being able to dowen load fault codes!! I thjought that was only possible with OBD II!!

5. When the SMOG refeees big scanner could not connect with my PCM, he was embarrassed and relied on my scanner to satisfy himself that the emmison stuff was working.,

The port on mine is of OBD II configuration, but wired OBD I. It took a bit to convince the ref that the system was OBDI!! Seems a mid year change at GM!!

Press on, a great job on a great car..

PS

Do you mean 3rd?? 4th is OD!!!!

Carl

I pulled transmission and took to them first time, as i was unsure of year etc and didnt want headache of being told it was wrong trans. Once i was confident it was indeed a 94 i took it to them, i probably should have said that my wife works for a very large used truck dealership and she sent me to this transmission place as they do all the truck transmissions... Being as my wife is a large customer of transmission shop, they have agreed to repull trans on their dime. Mind you, its probably why its taking so long, people paying extra to get trans pulled will jump ahead of me, no big deal really, as car isn't really needed for anything right. Now...
The reason for not going with a stock tune is the engine isnt running optimally with the cam.and rockers etc, i wanted to make sure everything was optimal before sending back to shop... i am using scan9495 for code retrieval and to watch everything, i can also create logs and watch them playback later, its a fantastic program and free to boot, just just need a laptop and in my case an ob1 to usb cord attached are a couple of screen shots... of course car isnt here so i cant show it hooked up...

Because i don't have a vats module, i simply use tuner pro ( another free program) to turn it off, its as simple as unchecking a box..

and yes, od, i keep.calling it 4th as thats what pcm.is calling for, either way works for me.

I guess i should also clarify that the hotcam tune i have installed is not the performance tune i paid for, this one is just for engine, and i copied over the speedo scalars so speedometer wasould.be correct, it doesnt have the higher line pressures or shift points, thoae are all stock on the tune that car is running while.trans shop sorts it out...

Hi Darren,
I'm interested in what lead you to get a new tune because of the hot cam and rockers? I'll be coming up to the tuning issue with mine too, probably next spring.

Thanks,

Dave

Sorry, misread the question, saw the word lead and read it as leed, pronounced, not spelled.. anyway,

The reason for the new tune, was because although car will still run on a stock tune, it won't run right.
Plus i had check engine light due to egr and air pump deletes, roller rockers make noise so the knock retards must be adjusted or source an lt4 knock module ( not cheap if you can find one at all)
plus as i said before the tuner i went with adjusted scalars to make pcm get correct vehicle speed with jag rear end ratio and my tire size..
He also adjusted line pressures and shift points in trans to keep motor in its power band longer.
The trans part of the tuning was what i didnt want the trans shop to deal with which is why I uploaded a hotcam tune onto my spare pcm, with stock trans tables...
I think that about covers it, sorry for confusion about lead versus lead.. lol

I'm the one who is sorry for the poor grammar, should have spelled "led".

Thank you for the information on your tune. I plan to delete the A.I.R. system too, but will probably keep the EGR. I've been able to locate a NIB LT4 knock module, hoping it would prevent ignition retard from my roller rockers. It sounds like I still need to re-tune to account for deleted A.I.R., is that the way you see it?

I chose the Dakota Digital Tach/Speedo Interface SGI-100BT to sort out the Chevy/Jaguar gauge issues. From the limited testing I can do without a running and driving car, it will be able to translate both functions and allow fine tuning for gear ratio/tire size. Looks promising.

I dropped my trans off with the Tech who does all the 4L60's at the local GM dealership. My Son says all the movers and shakers in our area use him, so I'm comfortable with that.

Thanks again for your help and be sure to let us know how the latest trans overhaul goes.

Dave

I used the Dakota digital sgi 5e for just the speedo conversion, the tach i modified per jaguar specialties web site, cost 30 cents to do.
If all you want the tune for is to delete the air system, i suggest downloading tunerpro rt, and eehack, both free, ltxtech has a list of downloadable tunes thats where i got a few and you can compare them and see whats changed etc. Great learning tool! And like the vats, turning off the AIR is as sinple as unchecking a box.
if you have any questions i have found Fred (injuneer) over on ltxtech to be the go to guy! ( hes their version of Doug. Lol. )

Default Trans ia done!!

Got the call Saturday, transmission is fixed, they found no smoking gun, , they think one of the new parts was out of tolerance, like the band, could have been a fraction too long, etc, they did another complete rebuild and all is fine!
picking her up tomorrow morning, as i was unable to make it to shop before they closed on Saturday...
Now i get to finish the break in!
