Hi all, am hoping someone knows or can share a pic of what the electrics should look like in a series 3 passenger footwell behind the carpet!?
After finding about 12 mouse poison sachets around the car the previous owner obviously did a good job of keeping the rats and mice out. Pity he had not kept the cowboys out... been removing not one but two 90s car phones and tracing the wires from an equally dodgy 90s alarm system... seems to go through the bulkhead in two places and lots of wires loose and not connected to anything!
but does anyone know Is this box below standard? It kind of fell out as I lifted the footwell carpet and I suspect it’s something to do with a wolf alarm siren under the bonnet as there was a remote fob with the keys when I acquired it, but it also had connections to a defunct Novatel box in the boot and it’s somewhat spliced in to other things that I’m not sure about yet.... and also there’s a couple of unplugged connectors here too that look original, so am confused! Wonder if the car had a tracker at some point...
there are 2 loose connectors, and also 4 wires snipped that you can see in the photo right hand side...
id really like to know how it should look and get things back to factory if possible to avoid odd electrical issues!
Hi Al.
Haven't seen any thing like that in my S3. It could be the black box for your remote locking and/or burglar alarm. the Jag did not have remote locking as stadard. I have just installed an aftermarket unit in my work van and it looked similar to that. On my van install there were a lot of wires unused so the cut wires are probably just not used.

PS- if you Google MPT1430 it brings up a reference to remote locking 2 button fobs.
Agreed that the black box is a non-Jaguar alarm or remote locking device.
As for the dangling, vacant connecters, well, they're pretty common on Jags (and some others). Jaguar often used the same main wiring loom for many build variations. The vacant connectors might simply be for equipment that was never installed on your particular car.
Looking beyond the electronics, wow, check out the condition of the footwell itself! That is not only rust free, it looks brand new.
Lots of us have found weird wiring in our vintage Jaguars. Elinor has posted photos of her console area where it looked like a spaghetti accident. Be sure to download the S57 wiring diagrams, they will help.
yes actually the central locking is not working on the key since I bought it
there is a remote fob that came with the car but I’ve been reluctant to press it in case it immobilises the thing knowing what old alarms are like! I might have to go and give it a try! Fingers crossed!
Oh and the only other thing not working is the speedometer, but I gather it runs off the gearbox on these, and alll the dashboard lights work with the light switch so surprisingly no issues there
Thanks Jeff yes all my footwell are like this, the previous owner retired to the south of Spain with it
i have a couple of bubbles around the front and rear screen, and one on a lower passenger door and a small rust spot on the roof, but aside from that my main issue on the body pork is lots of cracking and crazing on the paint from the Spanish sun

What year or build date is your car? There were 3 variations of the central locking system with different circuitry and parts.
Sometimes it's just a matter of cleaning and lubricating the mechanisms inside the door. Sometimes more involved....but in any case well within DIY territory.
It might be that the added-on system, if failed, is rendering the locking system inoperative.

Circa 1982-83 Jaguar went from a cable-drive speedo to an electric speedo. With the later it is common for the transmission mounted transducer to fail. A few easy checks...which we can walk you through if needed.... can eliminate other possibilities before buying a new transducer
thanks again Doug, mine is a 1985, I don't know the build date but it was registered 1st August 1985, and the chassis number fit with that first half of 1985 being 430xxx ish, as back then in the UK, the registration plates changed every 1st August, so hundreds of thousands of cars were built to be registered on that one day each year!
My "aftermarket remote" doesn't seem to do anything, and I definitely want to take that weird box out if it's not standard, and also the alarm siren under the bonnet, as I think they are only going to give trouble if I don't. The only trouble is I will then be left with some loose wires with no comnectors, that need to be put back in to the wiring loom somehow possibly! I think I need to find someone local with a similar model I can look at or if I can get a picture of someone's footwell wires on the transmission tunnel that might solve it!
Seems like it's connected - no central locking from any lock, and then a weird box that seems to be connected with a defunct remote fob that came with the car but does nothing!
But all that is going to have to wait a little bit unfortunately - as I went to get tires the other day so I could try for an MOT test, and she broke down in front of the tire shop only a mile from home!.... seems she is fuel starved, so need to have a look at the fuel pump first I think! Or could be old fuel as it's sat around with the previous owner... hope I don't have to drop the tanks on the driveway.... interested in fuel pump and prefilter recommendations now!
