Having just cleaned the scuttle out i decided to start clean up around the passenger firewall and found this.
1, The yellow and orange wires where isolated and taped
2, Black and red wire loose
3, Brown wire, broken?
4, Connector block with black and red wires.
So the questions are, what should i do with these? l dont know if its related but the XJS has a aftermarket car alarm fitted, i haven't tried to mess with it at all i would like to get rid off it all at some point.

All looks aftermarket-related to me. Get rid of it when you have time.
l didnt even need to be told twice, hateful stuff! Thanks gents...............................and i got a bonus of the drivers side lower courtesy light now works, happy days
