Default New to us 1984 XJ6

I think we found one of those time capsule cars. Original owner, California 1984 XJ6 with just over 39k on the clock. Not perfect, but darn nice. I'm going to start the wash/wax routine this afternoon, and can hopefully take some pics. I did notice a shake at idle. Could that be a motor/tranny mount? I know very little about these cars.

Thanks,
David

Welcome, nice to have a new owner join! The shake could be related to motor mounts, but may also be a slight misfire due to a clogged or sticking injector. The shaking may go away after the car is driven for awhile. I would suggest some fuel system cleaner added to the tank like Techron or BG 44K. Drive it for a few weeks and see where it stands.

I hope your second theory is right. More fun to fix! I used that BG44K in a BMW I had. It works great!

Thanks,
David

I've seen several people tell about how the car started to improve its driveability and the engine ran better and better when they put it back into service regularly after sitting for awhile. I hope it happens for yours too.

I agree with that statement. My car had sat for literally 10+ years. After I drove it around for a few weeks this not only identified immediate issues that need attention but also allowed the engine to "break in" again. It is amazing what new fluids and clean injectors can do.

Thanks everyone. It actually belongs to a friend/neighbor who we just found out is going to be laid up for 4-6 weeks. This is 2 days after becoming the new owner... Maybe she'll let me drive it around. I just detailed it for her. Here's a couple pics:

That's a definite beauty, looks garage kept, no sun damage on the leather and the wood color is rich.

That car looks well loved by its first owner. I am sure you will enjoy driving it.

Thanks again everyone. It's probably going to be sitting idle for the next couple weeks again while the new owner recovers. Does anyone know where those big furry floor mats come from? We heard that those are OEM!?! The driver's one is missing. I'd prefer something else, but if they came with the car...

Thanks!
