I was all set to drop rear out of car and do my gear swap, but car has other plans…… took it out for a
drive this morning to run a data log so I can
compare everything after the swap, but noooooo, got put to a Main Street where it is safe to do a little spirited acceleration, put foot down, hesitation and a pop, then bucked a bit, let off gas and applied normally and away she drove, turned around and went home, read the data and when I hit the gas she went instantly lean!!! A little
digging and both of my pre
filters are
about clogged solid!!! Guess I’m cleaning tanks instead of changing gears!!!! Never fails though, both tanks are of course full!!!!! Will post pics of all the crap I get out when I am
done!!!
Hope everyone had a merry Christmas, or whatever it is you celebrate!
Well that has everything, planning and anticipation, unexpected problems, delayed gratification, a hint of despair and all with a fine dusting of Murphys Law full tanks; and we tell ourselves we do this for fun

You don't see the Fun in this, Steve?!
I see a Lot more Fun in this than in some things I have to do.

Welllll......
Are you gonna remove the tanks? Not a pleasant task.
There is an option that might work. It has worked for others.
Replace the pre- filters and drive the car. They'll clog again. Replace them again; they'll clog again....but probably not so quickly. Repeat, repeat, repeat. With a bit of luck all the loose crud will be captured after 4-5 times and you'll be on your way.
I have the cleanable filters, so that’s not a big hassle, I have cleaned the filters out, pumped the gas out of right tank into fuel Jugs and have just shot a pressure washer wand up I. From tail light, the amount of crud that came out is unbelievable!, it’s currently airing out and I amusing my compressor to force air in too! If this works, I will move to the left tank, Crud from pre filters Crud from tank( not the leaves) lol In tank filter/sock
Tanks are original to car, so 38 years old, the odd part is, when I looked inside gas tank, it was only cruddy on the bottom, side walls looked quite nice, just a goldy looking tarnish ( for lack of a better description) if new tanks are in my future, so be it, it’s just nuts and bolts, probably the only ones I haven’t touched yet! Lol
Scary! I am going to take a look at my pre-pump filters and replace them. I have been running my car everyday for the last 5 years with no problems. My tanks were steam cleaned in 2015.
Went to NAPA and bought 2 pre-pump filters. I have a new post pump filter in my garage so I will replace all 3.
Thank you for sharing your pics. Made me wake up to what can happen with all the sand we have here in Florida.
I had mine boiled out by a radiator shop then lined. He told me that he removed about 15 lbs of sludge and rust between the two tanks. That's not something you are going to be able to fix by just changing filters.
