Many moons ago, I did a bunch of work with wheel nut tightening! Dry unlubricated studs/nuts have a very different torque to Induced bolt tension compared to "lubricated" bolts/nuts. Also, the finish of the nut/bolt has a big influence, ie phosphated, oiled, zinc plated etc. With standard steel wheels the nut recess can collapse if overtightened, ie tensioned, and the studs can fail.
