Default Oil Presure switch start with?

Hi,
Just wondering if the oil pressure switch can leak from the engine block can cause drops to appear regularly? and is this common?
I have developed a leak which seems to be worse when the motor is running (I had a similar issue with another car SAAB 95, replaced oil switch and leak gone).
Or could it be a number of things to check?

thanks

Yes and yes

Yes, but you've picked a good place to start the journey

Cheers

100% agree with Doug.

THEN

Coming out the rear of that oil filter housing is a an oil drain back pipe and hose arrangement.

That hose (5/8 oil hose) is probably rock hard now and they leak, only when the engine is running.

Replacement is a mongrel, drain the sump first (I dd not, what a mess), the hose is a generic oil resistant hose, as in Turbo drain hose, BUT, there is an o/ring on that pipe where it enters the top face of the sump, and that is Jaguar specific, very thick o/ring. I will dig up a part number and edit this post when I do.

Found it, EAC8840.

I had a look from the top and put my hand around what I thought was the Oil pressure switch (drivers side below the double carbies?) , and it was dry.
I will check what you suggest next, but wont be able to till the weekend - I'll update then.
Thanks again
Clayton

A dry hand is GOOD, although frustrating when you think you are on the track.

ALSO

Following the oil gallery line forward from the filter housing, and getting near the power steer bracket where it attaches to the block, MAY be an oil switch. Some cars had them, some did not. It is part of the Anti Run On system. It is prone to leaking. It is NOT a standard oil switch, it is a reverse polarity switch. I removed and plugged all mine as the switch at the time was silly $$, and my engines did not run on, so why bother.

The oil weeping from it will track along the sump flange and drip off anywhere it likes.

Had another and I think the oil may be leaking from the 5/8 oil hose as Grant mentioned or the Relief Valve at the bottom of the Oil filter assembly (think its part JS.234), as it felt quite oily when I put my hand under it - The front of the Oil filter assembly is dry as with the rest of the motor.
I tightened the 2 clips to the 5/8 oil hose a little bit . Would it be worth trying to tighten the Relief Valve (JS.234) or does it sound buggered?

Well fond.

That hose will be the root cause. All 8 of mine were, so odds are yours be the same.

That relief valve, NAH, it has a copper washer seal to the housing, and I have never hod one leak externally.

Get some hose, new clamps, and that o/ring, and go or it.

Since yours has the vertical oil filter, just for giggles, run your finger around the oil filter itself, just in case it needs a nip up, or better still a new one. That leak I have had once only, and MY blunder, only 1/2 a turn when 3/4 is called for.

Doubting my memory now.

That hose, something ringing in the cells that its 1/2" not 5/8", so maybe measure that pipe.

Hate you waste money on my mistake.

After my last post I cleaned the area up and had a better look after running it. Oil was coming out the oil filter housing on the block so I tightened the 4 bolts (2 were not that tight) and repeated.
This time you could see oil seeping from where the oil filter connects. I did what you suggested and gave the oil filter a tighter turn before trying to tackle the hose mentioned above. It worked , the seeping oil has stopped and after a nearly a day there is only 1 or 2 oil drops, which I can live with for now (previously when engine was running you could see oil seeping form the bottom of the engine). After a few more things I need to fix I will tackle replacing the oil hoses.
once again thanks

Well done.

A few drops are all part of the Jaguar Anti Rust System, HA< just kidding, but it works.
