Default Please identify this part

I thought it was a heater valve, but the 3 that are on RockAuto (including the one I ordered) doesn't seem to be right.

Is this something other than a heater valve?

Yes, the 2nd picture is the part in question.

Thanks!

In your online catalog, you offer 2 versions, one without the # at the end of the PN ($99) and one with the # at the end of the PN ($63).

Differences, besides price?

all the valves in the pictures are Heater Valves, also known as Heater Taps, but only 1 is a Jaguar XJ-6 part.

if Rock Auto is telling you that the First, Third, and Fourth pictures are for a Jaguar XJ-6,
run, don't walk. Stick with the original Heater Valve.

Jose:

Why? Many an original metal vacuum operated heater valve has ben replaced with a plastic generic unit. If he default on/off matches, why not. And, much easier to install.

But, if absolute originality is an aim, sure get one of the metal units.

My car's generic plastic one works just fine. That is when I get the ignition/start issue resolved. I am taking a break from that.

Carl,
because of the mounting. In the XJ-6 the heater valve is mounted to the firewall with nuts and bolts. In fact, all Jaguars have their heater valves bolted / secured to a bracket of some sort.

even my '65 S type has its heater valve bolted to the firewall.

Absolutely correct. But, unnecessary.

The generic unit is supported by the heter hoses alone, sans any support to the bulk head.

Thank you everyone.

So, theoretically, the generic RockAuto units (all 3) could work?

I'm not sure about the third one, but you can get the plastic ones at any Autozone or Advance Auto Parts locally, no need to order it by mail.

make sure the one you get is NORMALLY OPEN / CLOSES WITH VACUUM.

If it were me, I'd fit the correct valve. SNG Barratt have two listed but one is an aftermarket item, so a bit cheaper, and will probably last OK. Only the Jaguar-pattern valve has the inlet and outlet ports in the correct relationship, plus fitment holes to secure to the bulkhead bracket. Why try to save a measly few $$s on your pride and joy ?

# Part numbers are OEM
* Part numbers are Aftermarket
Plain number parts are Jaguar boxed (same as OEM)

Jose:

Guilty as charged.

1. I was brought up in the Pre WWII depression era.

2. Scots are am0ong my ancestors.

3. Mom was a very thrifty lady.

4. I worked in insurance claims for 50 years.

5. Function at a price is important.

6. fit the price to the need and use.

I've a lot of HF tools. Some better than others. Most just fine for my amateur use. But, many, not up to the needs of a professional.

Would I ever buy a new car? Nope. In my lifetime, I've only bought one!! My 1953 MG TD, while in service in Germany. Lots of fun, but a total impractical vehicle. .

In 81, I got a sorta new 79 IHC Scout II. Low miles, low demand, great price.

In 89, I got a Budget Rent a car. Very low miles, great condition, great price. V8
and the 89's were mere 6"s.

But, ugh, paid a top price for a used 83 Jaguar. Investment poor. Fun, oh yeah.

And a reasonable price for a used high mileage Jeep. A better deal, still clean, tight, shiny and dependable.

So, unless I needed absolute concourse parts, a generic plastic valve is just fine.

Caveat: The plastic heater matrix in my daughter's Passatt is junk!!

Plastic doesn't rot or corrode, it merely disintegrates!!!

I have an MG TD. It was my first car, I bought it used in 1972 for $700. It is my next restoration project, after the Jaguar is together.

Black, but with poor tires. That lead to adventure. then via PX a set of WSW an it was a really nice car. I brought it home on conclusion of service. More tales there.

As to the TD, well, a fellow officer had a red one. We "raced" at the old Hochenheim race course!! Fun WOT all the way around.

And, then a lap or two at Nurenburg with another class mate, now a fellow officer.
Fun, but way short on HP!!
