The seal is really 2 pieces with the trim sandwiched between them. These are not really seals but finishing pieces for the stainless trim.
The inner (glass side) seal is independent of the outer (body side) seal.
Locate the joint on the inner seal and slowly pull toward the glass side.
Locate the joint on the outer seal and slowly pull toward the body side.
If you try pulling the seals toward the stainless steel trim you may bend it and if you do, it will never sit right again.
You may find that when trying to remove the inner and outer seal it may be stuck with some of the windscreen adhesive. Just take your time and carefully cut away the adhesive.
After removing the inner and outer seal, carefully cut away the stainless steel trim from the adhesive. Carefully clean trim for installation.
When I removed my front and rear glass, the OEM seal was just held by the adhesive in a few spots.
The seals are normally loose around the lower corners. That is where water enters and rot the corners of these cars.
After removing the 2 seals and the stainless trim, there will be the real seal and adhesive that attaches the glass to the body of the car.
I used a windshield removal tool kit (Harbor Freight ($19.99) to cut out the glass.
I purchased the 3 piece seal kit from FCP Euro and I had a professional glass installer do the installation for me.
I probably missed a few steps because I did this about 5 years ago. Others will chime in on any steps I may have missed.

I have an XJ6C 1976 series 2. One fine day, the stainless trim piece on the passenger side rear quarter window panel vanished. Any thoughts on where a replacement might be found? Thanks.
"Living wih a Classic" on Youtube has a video on removing and replacing the rear window on a xj6 series 2 sedan - not sure if rear window in series 2 is same as series 3,
Screens are different on Series 2 cars, different shape, and also different securing method. Series 1s and 2s use the traditional rubber seal, Series 3s use the glue-in method, with rubber strips and chrome trim that look like the old method, but aren't ! Fitting the old type seals was quite straightforward once you knew how it worked, although it could be difficult to get fully waterproof, needing insertion of screen sealer. I did front and rear on a Mark 2 with some assistance. The glue-in process makes t he screen effectively part of the bodyshell, and thus more rigid, but had its downside in that cracks can appear from all sorts of places around the perimeter because of the stresses of movement passing into the glass. I had a crack appear on a Rover 75 windscree from about 1/3rd the way up the A-pillar

( BBC- 5889 for the outer chrome gasket,) (BAC- 2288 for insede body edge, ) and (BAC-4794 for inside chrome gasket )
So do I just remove the existing gasket stuck/glued on the rear glass and add a bead of window sealant all around and attache it on the car?
If so, when do I reinstall the trims?
Do I install trims before it dries in order to center the glass?
Will I have a problem installing the trims after it dries?
And do the inner and outer chrome gaskets need window sealant as well?

I've only done this once so I'm no expert.
First, have everything you need close at hand. You'll need to work somewhat quickly. Have lots of paper towels ready and mild solvent as the urethane glass adhesive gets everywhere. Mask off around the work area.
In a nutshell....
The inner seal is installed first, then the glue added, then install the glass. Then the outboard rubber finisher is inserted into the still-wet glue. Then the stainless steel trim is inserted into the still-wet glue. Then the last rubber finisher installed to sandwich the stainless trim in place.
I used a couple small pieces of 5/16" round dowel at the bottom of the glass to prevent it from sliding down until the glue begins to take hold
