Default Series 2 manual - what should I pay?

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/JAGUAR-X...53.m1438.l2649

I have been chasing a manual gearbox for some time. I reckon this car without the manual box would struggle to make $1500. What should I offer for it. The car has been on various market places for many months, starting out at $10K. It would cost $1K to have it shipped to my address.
My apologies if the seller is on this forum.

John,

Seems like too good a car to part out, if that is your intention. Maybe there is a more modern 5 speed box that could be adapted?

They used an LT77 5-speed (same as used in the Range Rover, TR8, and Rover SD1) in the SIIIs everywhere except the US. That might work; the flywheel and starter are different if I remember correctly. As for an offer on that SII, I would think 2K just because it is a manual.

Never thought that option would be a one-off on a SII. You had a manual option up to the XJ40 if you didn't live in the US.

Thanks Peter. Yes the 5 speed would be far preferable to the O/D. The .78 ratio on the O/D makes choosing a rear end difficult, but a have a 3.31 spare which may suit.
The owner of this car is a bit optimistic that someone will spend enough to restore it, Webasto roof and LWB don't appeal to me. Parting out is this car's future.

And thanks metalbasher - you have confirmed my estimate of it's worth.

John,
I guess it really boils down to what the gearbox is worth to you, then the math on return from breaking it up.
