Series 2 V12 Exhaust Drone
When I bought my 76 Series 2 XJC V12 it had a 2 1/4" sports exhaust system fitted. However it was still as quiet as a standard system. While I know the the Jag V12 will never sound like a V8 or the scream of a Italian V12 I would prefer the sound to be a bit beefier.
As I first step, I had the centre mufflers removed and replaced with a X pipe leaving on the rear silencers in place - really made little difference to the sound. So I then had the rear silencers replaced with sportier mufflers - while still relatively quiet it sounds better - except it drones at 1500rpm with a throatie sound at the 3000rpm harmonic.
No the last mod cost quiet a bit so I am not looking at replacing the rear mufflers but as the car is driven mainly around town where it sits on 1500rpm the sound is starting to get to me. I even pulled of the standard tail pipe extensions and that mate a nice rumble at idle but the drone remained.
Researching this I found that installing J pipes to each side to the exhaust system my fix this but I dont know enough to be sure.
So any suggestions on getting rid of the drone or on the fitting of a J pipe to each side of the exhaust.
Thanks
Garry
