Default Series 3 v12 pre he air cleaner question

Hi all,
Hope you're all doing ok with restrictions at the moment and not going too crazy.
I've got a question about the air intakes on my v12.

I seem to have a lot of vacuum on the left hand air filter assembly trumpet at startup, but none on the right hand assembly.
If i block the left trumpet with my hand briefly the motor wants to stall, however doing the same on the right hand assembly has no discernable affect.
Seems to equalise to a degree when the motor is warm.

Is this normal?

Cheers,
Roger

Yep, Normal.

The extra air valve (AAV) is hooked up primarily to the LH air cleaner unit.

Once it closes, things return to normal. Well, Jaguar normal anyway.

Thanks guys, much appreciated.
Related issue - i think...
The air balance pipe has been blanked off on the rhs. However when i connect it to the right hand air pipe just under the air cleaner i get a loud resonating sound - almost like an air horn.

Interestingly connecting these makes the right hand air cleaner assembly trumpet suck in air, also raising the idle to about 1100rpm.

BEER time Roger.

Under each throttle body is a 90deg rubber elbow, and stuck up the end of said elbow is a steel pipe that runs aft, and connects to teh ballance peipe.

Very strange arrangement.

Thos 90deg elbows rot out, and sound that trumpet as a warning. The added air leak (vac leak to the D Jetronic system) raises the idle about 500+rpm.

Nothing special, just look for a decent wall thickness 90deg elbow at Cheap Autos/Repco etc, and you should be fine. Memory (HAHAHA) is 5/8". Replace them about every 3 years, the exhaust manifold heat is the root cause.

Hi Grant,
Agree with the beer time sentiment mate mate
Haven't seen this elbow before - when I have a minute I'll have to investigate.
Does it joint to the balance pipe via a t joiner? If so mine is missing.
Appreciate the help.
Take care.
Roger

I will look for the Mudmap of that fiasco at the same time.

Drink on young man, the Jag will wait.

Mudmap not found, Bugga.

So from memory??

Each throttle body has a 90 deg rubber elbow on the underside. About 5/8" ID.
There is a pipe that travels aft on each side, and then the shaped hose from the balance pipe drops down and attaches.

There is an odd "T"" arrangement AT the AAV top inlet, and I cannot find a picture of it.

BUT

That LH (B Bank) side of yours sounds intact.

The RH (A Bank) is the culprit. There will be/should be, a shaped hose, stepping down from 1" (balance pipe diam) to the diam of the aft running pipe. That may well be there, just plugged.

I removed the AAV and the balance pipe on all mine, but that is a separate discussion, and I oblige if needed. I have the HE ersion in PDF. The PreHE is simpler by a very long shot.

Feels like I have my own personal Jag mechanic - I can't afford to pay you by the hour though - look me up if you're in Canberra and I'll pay you in beer
Would definitely be interested in any info you can throw my way relating to deleting the whole balance pipe and aav stuff.
Cheers,
Roger

Yep - I've only been around a few days and he's already provided heaps of advice.
Hopefully as I learn more I'll be able to pay it forward...

Roger,

PM sent.

Talk later.

The PDF I have for the AAV etc removal is for the HE, and will give you the very basics. I will write a PreHE PDF and send to you.
