There is a fella out here in the country who collects Corvairs, has a barn full of them so I hear. He even got the county to name his road Corvair Drive.

Slow progress. The damage on the jag has been cut out. Will weld it in this week. Than I can fit the radiator again, and start the thing!
Can't wait to drive it again.

Can't wait to hear more, maybe some pics as you go.
So, lots of progress here, but unfortunately not that many pictures. I have fallen into an extensive restoration of the xj6!
The radiator is back in and wired up. Technically it is driveable. but as I have such a great working place, I decided to do a bit more. Took out the windows and doors, took out the entire wiring loom...
and now I am rebuilding it. Cutting out rust, welding in new solid steel. I love it! I gotta feeling it is gonna be much better than when I bought it. I promise to make pictures next time. For now I have only one of the front pillar. Cut out some rust...

Put some solid steel back in and is finished already. Working my way throught the entire car like this!

So, little progress from last week. Regarding the welds, I need to finish this but didn't have the right grinding disk.
Going well over here! :-)

Finally, some updates. See for yourself:
What I did:
- empty interior
- fabricate a completely new wiring loom
- weld rusted spots/holes.
it's work in progress but I'm getting there.

Damn you've got perseverance! Hey find a way to replace that oil cooler with the factory leaky hoses so you won't have oil all over that nice engine bay! Even brand new factory hoses start weeping in short order, and removing old ones from the oil cooler usually removes some of the threads off the cooler making it unusable. I'd love to make some nice hoses and fit an aftermarket cooler, any ideas?
Ah.... the leaky part is coolant. Just a loose clip. Fixed already.
The oil coolers (gearbox and steering) are integrated in the radiator. There is no seperate engine oil cooler...
Perseverance is key when working on classic cars. Especially when you're on a budget like me :-)

The wiring loom looks like a nightmare to replace. From experience, the old one is not good enough for any car, certainly not for a car like yours. I'd like to do everything as good as possible on my car because who wants to be that guy that does his job poorly? When finished, you can be proud of the car, I would be.
The wiring has already been replaced. Just needs to be wrapped up but I want to wait till I am sure I got all the wires. Happened way too often I taped it all, just to find out I wanted to add a single wire.
Anyway, Xjeej I know you from the dutch jaguar forum. How is it going with your project cars? I hear the series 1 is no good...?

They are all no good. The series 1 is very good, just not the engine, transmission, any rubber in the suspension, electrics and the interior isn't very pretty. The transmission is not original (BW66 full of metal scrapings), the engine is original but it will be replaced by a restored engine I got from Han. My crankshaft will go in that engine because for some reason the restored crankshaft destroyed the main bearrings, then I need another head and it will be a good engine, hopefully.
The XJ12 is very rusty relative to the XJ6. It has sat for almost 4 years and it has been stored in a field by the previous owner. The engine works but has a headgasket leak and I have a new transmission that should work. After that it's a lot of bodywork.
I'd say could be way worse. I'm fine with the interior being a mess. It has a very special smell and I sat down in it today and remembered the fun I had driving it, so continued. I need to be in a particular mood to work on the Mercedes because I don't want to mess it up. After that it's XJ12 time and there is a garage where I can work and store it...

so, the passenger side of the car is solid again!
now it's up to the driverside. Problem points: bottom area of the A and C column.
And I removed the airco radiator. I don't like it, was leaking and I could use the room for alternative fans (originals are broken and I dont like em.
