Default Straightforward video on changing piston return springs.

I know in these older Jags replacing piston return springs seems quite daunting but it's really not that bad! We all know they're suppose to be replaced every 35k miles, when's the last time you changed yours!? I followed this video and even though it's being done on a Honda the same principles apply to our classic Jags. I had my piston return springs replaced in a couple hours and now my cat absolutely purrs!

Timely advice here . . . and thanks for sharing!

However, a glaring omission should be noted when replacing piston return springs on the pre-decimal Jaguar XK engines . . . it is equally important to replace both camshaft rotation counters at the same time. If these counters lose their synchronous matching, the piston return springs are the least of one's problems.

Happy April . . .

Ken

Is that the spring thingy we all keep talking about?
No more questions regarding the spring thingy.
We now know the answer.
Please order me 8 of those for my Chevy engine.
6 for my 4.2
6 for my 4.0
a couple for my lawn mower and a couple more for ..............
What the heck, I need some for every engine I have
lol

Haha I was duped too! The OBD 2 code and owners manual service schedule was convincing. Only when it showed the animation of the spring in the combustion chamber did I realize...

I cannot believe anyone fell for that nonsense, everyone knows that the springs are on the bottom of the piston hooked to the oil pan!

Of course it has an oil pan... its held in place by the same springs!!! Thats what the clattering sound the engines make, its the oil pan bouncing around as the springs get old which in turn makes it dump oil all over...

Silly ???
Never seen a thread so begging for outrageous hijacking . . . posts like . . .
  • never mind what Jaguar recommend, can I run my engine on boiled down whale blubber?
  • will my car run faster if I inflate tyres (sorry, tires) with nitrogen?
  • why is synthetic oil superior to stuff made from long dead plant life?
  • salesman says car is concourse - or is that a "con" of "course"?
  • is $10K too much to spend on my new-to-me 20 year old Jaguar?
  • workshop & owners manuals? spare keys? - wow; what are they?
  • why is Elvis still driving around LA in a pink E-Type Jaguar?
Happy April, everyone!
Cheers,

Ken
