Default T Handle shifter to a round knob conversion

As the title states, im looking to replace the dinky T handle to a nice round shift knob. Is there any kits available or knobs made specifically for the series 1-3 T handles?

Inquiring for a 79 XJ6.

NOPE.

I did mine YEARS ago, welded a bolt with the CORRECT threads for the knob, where the flat top bit was, then filed it neat (I cant weld), and heatshrinked some Black stuff to hide the mess.

Gear knob came from ????? XJ40, XK8, dunno, it was on the floor at work, picked it up and pocketed it. It is Jag ,coz thats where I worked at the time, just not sure which model, and does it really matter??
Outside box thinking, look around, wonders are out there all over the place, gear knobs also.

Its my 85 XJS, same thing as yours, just 2 doors and the REAL engine.

This is well done. I was considering something custom like yours. I have a beautiful wood dash and would love a nice wood knob to compliment my interior

British Autowood makes them in wood for Bentley and Jaguar.

Default Shift Knob

I too do not like the black plastic OEM knob. But decided to keep it simple and went this route:

JAGUAR WOOD SHIFT KNOB- JAGUAR XJS WOODWORK - JAGUAR CONSOLES-SHIFT KNOBS | eBay

My car came to me with a Walnut Burl T-handle.
PO obviously had Excellent taste.

Good morning Elinor. Many thanks for this post. This is exactly what I have fitted to my 86 Series 3. It really looks great. Gerard.

The wood is a decent upgrade but the oversized capsule design is not as bold as a nice wood shifter that these interiors deserve.

The late XJS shift lever is what you are looking for, as those cars had a knob instead of the T handle. You're looking for roughly 1994 or later, either 4 or 6 litre.

Thanks for that info. I will see if I can just fit a knob over the existing shifter handle with the capsule knob removed - sourcing a 94-96 shifter then deconstructing it for just a shift lever may be more work.

he did say "Round" right? I got this Round shifter ball from a Little Red Corvette. The other side is threaded.

I agree with Jagboi, the later shifter would prob mostly bolt right in. In fact it has me thinking, I think I'll go look for one...

Aesthetics? Feel in the hand? Changing a shift lever is a lot simpler than changing a transmission.

Geez Exc, it's his car, his taste. You probably wouldn't like the fact that I took all four mufflers and the cat off my '86 so I could hear the backrap either.
