Default Thermostats

Hi all

I noticed a drip on the LH thermostat housing, so I decided to fix it, upon taking the thermostat out, I noticed it never sat properly in the water line, it had "dropped" and left a half moon gap at the top, it had been tightened down like this, now, is this correct, or is the larger disc of the thermostat meant to sit flush (i.e "seal") right around?

Many thanks

Nathan,

Standard slack mechanic result.

The stat sits in a groove in the backing housing. Run a small screwdriver around that groove to ensure that it is clean.

Mount the stat with the hole/jiggle pin at 12 o'clock.

Gravity is against you here, so a dob (slightly bigger than a match head) of RTV on the stat rim at that 12 o'clock point will secure it in position whilst you juggle the cover into place. I usually hold the stat a few minutes until that RTV goes tacky, it does not take long.
