Default Trans fluid.

Quick Question here.
I keep reading about people putting Dexron trans. fluid in the trannsmission.
book calls for type f and everywhere I've looked on internet calls for type f also. Why dexron? I know they have slight differences, but I don't remember what it is. I think it is something like expansion, can't remember.

Jaguar originally used Type G but that's an obsolete designation. Type F or FA is the closest nowadays, and works great.

Due to different additives Dexron is 'more slippery' than F or FA so you might feel a slightly softer shift.....and might have a bit more clutch plate wear.

I've not heard of any problems using Dexron in the old BW transmissions, personally.

I haven't heard of any problems with dexron either, just thought I'd ask.
Any thoughts on synthetic?

Synthetic? If it makes you feel good, use it

I think the primary advantage of synthetic is that it doesn't break down as easily as conventional ATF under high temp conditions. If the car is not subjected to hard use then synthetic probably isn't much advantage, if any. Except the feel good factor, of course !
