transmission safety lock

transmission safety lock
Or in plain English, how do you get it out of park and into neutral when you have no key to turn on the ignition?
I suppose I could jumper the appropriate wires together. Off hand, does anyone know witch ones they my be?
I assume a solenoid is locking the movement of the shift lever. Can I easily get to it from the top down, through the console?
All good ideas welcome. and btw, I know "If I had not put it in park I would not have this problem"
thanks again geneo

What kind of car?
The Ser I-II-III Jags do not have any sort of gearshift lock at all. You can move the lever out of "P" at any time.
If you have a Ser I-II-II and it can't be shifted out of "P" then something must be mechanically wrong with the gearshift....or perhaps gearshift cable.
Cheers

Or.....perhaps the weight of the car against the parking pawl (inside the transmission) is preventing movement? Especially likely f the car is parked on a hill.
Try rocking the car back-n-forth a bit while a helper tries moving the lever.
Setting hand brake before shifting into "P" can prevent this scenario, as the weight of the car is held against the parking brake, not the transmission
Cheers

thanks Doug, forgot to mention 1977 Series II, the one in the picture.
Good to know there is not US mandated safety solenoid on those years. It's been a long time since I've had this car out( early 2000). Now that the kids are gone and I've retired, it's time. Right now I'm just trying to move it from protected storage to my shop.
This is the coupe whose keys were stolen in a home burglary after I had put it in storage; thus all my little questions.
Again, thanks all for the help and answers. If all goes well I'll move it this weekend.

Geneo:
Jacking up a rear wheel, both if it has power lock might relieve the stress enough to move the shift lever.
Beware of too much force on the shift lever. the cable swage just might get loose and it becomes even more "shiftless" !
If those measures don't work get under and disconnect the cable from the shift lever.that may release some tension.
It is a pawl in the transmission that drops into a slot and allows the blockage known as Park.
Tis a Jaguar caveat, to avoid a down hill park against a curb and then place the trans in Park. Stuck!!!
