Default Xj6 Squarking in first after rebuild

Hi looking for some thoughts from jag owners out there,

i have just had my bw66 Transmission rebuilt on my1984 SIII xj6 when i was overseas in KL by a Jaguar workshop and viewed the entire rebuild process, all clutches and gears replaced, valvebody opened up and cleaned out it was a very long and involved process

however just got it back into the country and Jag dealer is saying that it is squarking and will need to go through a rebuild process, expect topay around 2000AUD

the only thing that was not touched was the tourqe converter

the noise only comes about when the fluid is warm or tranny is at operating temp, tranny has only done 50km since rebuild and has operated perfectly

any thoughts greatly apreciated

What does 'squarking' mean?

Thanks for the explanation.

Auto transmission is the one thing I steer clear of - it's the black arts to me. One thing I do know from personal experience is that when a torque convertor goes it sounds like a broken mirror being shaken around in the bottom of a box!

Good luck with finding the cause and a fix.

Graham

does the transmission vibrate when this "squarking" happens? Can you feel any sort of vibration in the transmission tunnel as if the entire driveshaft was out of balance?

if yes, check the main rubber mounting "donut" for the driveshaft, if it is worn out, it is a typical source of symptoms from noise to vibrations.

$2k? I'd look for a running XJ6 parts car.

The torque converter contains wearable parts, in particular a one-way clutch. So before you tear the BW66 to bits again, it might be worth checking the t/converter. Also are you using the correct fluid in the box ?

HI Guys thanks for the replies,

i visited the transmisson shop this morning to get more info on this problem, he is basicly saying there is no throttle pressure on the intake, if that means anything.
T/converter was the one thing that didnt get replaced,

and i am using Dexron in the transmission, checked it today and its not burnt, but i am still looking at a teardown ashe says there somthing not right in the build *sigh*

Update,

Turns our after pulling the valve body out a number of valves and pathways were clogged with dust "iron Filings" from the previous tranny disaster.
had it all cleaned out and now driving it with a magnafine filter, when cold tends to stick in first but eventually goes into gear. however when it gets toasty ie stop start traffic or under load up hill
it will slip in all 3 gears and rev out like sombody has the clutch in

using the manual selector makes no difference but reverse seems sweet
so of to the tranny shop again, was really looking forward to driving it this weekend

Which were probably residing in the old torque converter and re-deposited into the freshly overhauled transmission within moments of start-up
