Default 1988 window motors

After being stored for several years, both window motors are having problems. Actually it is the plastic gears in the motor assembly that didn't like the Texas heat. I have tried ordering new ones, but all I can find are "8 tooth" motors. Mine have "10 teeth" in the motor drive gear. I don't want to replace the regulators too. Any idea if the 10 tooth motors are still available, or possible to rebuild the ones I have?

Thanks,
JT

Are your motors essentially cylindrical with a flat surface on opposite sides? if so, I was able to get parts store replacements. The gear drives didn't match but i was able to swap my gear drives onto the new motors. I'll try to find a part number for you

Cheers

Here's what I used, a Cardone 42-130

Remanufactured Window Lift Motor by Cardone (part#42-130) / Lifts, Latches & Handles

Only take 5 minutes to swap the gear drives

My memory is foggy on the 2 or 3 supercessions of window motors so if your's is a different style I'm not sure what will work without getting the matching regulator. But...if you get a cooperative parts guy who is willing to open some boxes, you might get lucky and find something close enough to work

On other makes of cars besides Jaguar I've swapped gear drives to make things work so don't give up without a little investigating and mix-n-matching :-)
Cheers
DD

Thanks Doug.
The motors are like the Cardone #42-130 (I'm not sure about the worm gear, but it may be the same.) It meshes with a gear about 2 3/8" in diameter & the "output" gear is about 3/4" diameter (10 teeth). The motor is OK, but the mating (2 3/8") gear teeth got deformed by the pressure of the worm gear over time. The 3 mounting bolts are in a different position than the Cardone unit.
I need to replace at least the gear drive instead of the motor. Thanks for the links. I'll start looking for "functional replacements". I was hoping that maybe just an earlier or later model part would be the correct one.

I had internal gear stripped by the motor's drive axle. I opened gear housing, cleaned all fossilized grease and flipped driven gear, so motor would drive the other side of it. All I had to do is drill 3 holes on side of the large gear, so it could be flipped. Works like new, along with new channel guides.

You guy's are AWESOME!
I come up with numerous answers around here, but this is the kind of stuff I would NEVER have figgered out. Proves you are never to old to learn stuff.

Keep up the good work!

Mish,
What a great fix! I'm doing it this weekend & taking some pictures. It isn't that obvious that you can flip the gear, but you can. I'm really jealous that I didn't even think to try this when I saw the rubber cushion built into the gear. Once it's reinstalled & working I'll post the pic's. The regulator is working smoothly on the bench now!.

Thanks a Million!

Default Gear Flip Confirmed

I just reinstalled the motor with the flipped gear & it works great. The description my Mish was good. I also had to plane off a raised area on one side. Pretty self-explanatory. I attached some photos for reference.
You can see the damaged area in the gear.

Thanks again!

This is exactly what I did, but forgot to take pics. One more thing, remove spacers on one side of the gear and put on another, this way you will move driving shaft all the way onto the fresh teeth of your large gear.
Glad I could help...

NOTE TO ALL Y'ALL, use compressed air to blow off window tracks rubber very well. Sand particles that accumulate in those over time cause extra friction and premature window transport wear.

JT how did you remove the drive gear assembly so that the plastic gear could be flipped? it's not obvious.
