Default 1987 XJSC 5.3L V12 Targa - cloth roof - glass rear window

Can anyone tell me how many of these models were produced - this one is a California version. Has Targa Top but non-convertible roof with a glass rear window. The roof if cloth (blue) color of the car is white. Can provide VIN #.
I was told it is very rare model. Will try to post a photo. At first glance it looks like a convertible but it is not. Thank you in advance.

I don't think XJ-SC's are extremely rare FWIW a friend in our club had the exact same color combo a few years back. His unfortunately suffered a fuel line rupture/engine fire.

They made just over 5,000 in about a 4-5 year span 84-88 YMs someone else with exact figures will chime in I'm sure.

The rear hardtop could also be replaced with a half fold down convertible type top.

5013 is the exact number according to John Bleasdale who compiled a register of these cars many years ago.

As stated the hardtop rear section was an option for the folding rear section.

You can search for specific details including your car on xjsdata.com

I have just purchased one. It is black and came with the removable hard roof and an extra soft one. I am excited to drive it when the weather gets better.

For reference, the proper term for this body style is the "Cabriolet." As others have mentioned, it did indeed offer either a hard-top or folding soft-top for the back section, with 2 targa panels up front.

5,013 is the correct number, and just about half of those were brought over to the US. If you get in contact with John Bleasdale, as another person mentioned, he can provide you with specific production number for your year, color combination, etc.

When you consider that about 115,000 XJS' were made in total, the Cabriolet body style represents just over 4% of the total production- therefore I would consider them to be somewhat rare.

I did a decent amount of research before purchasing my 87 Cabriolet, so feel free to chime in with additional questions, and hopefully I or someone else can answer them!
