Default 1989 jaguar xjs transmission questions

Hi im looking for info. I recently bought a 1989 Jaguar xjs but the transmission was not in it I have a transmission from a 1988 Jaguar but I am concerned with fitting it because the did not have the crank position sensor on the '88. I would like to know where this speed sensor that zsits by the flywheel actually sits. Because mine is just hanging down on the drivers side by the oil filter

It's been years but I recall the sensor being mounted in the lower flywheel cover. This (vague) illustration somewhat supports my memory

Doug is right. You need number 3 in that diagram. Number 12 is also associated with the sensor, but is only a heat shield.

Awesome so you think if i found #3 in diagram it would work with my '88 transmision? Right now the car only cranks but no fire. The guy i purchased it from said he sent it to the transmission shop for repairs and they ripped the transmission out and ripped the sensor out in the process and that is why it won't start. I will post pics later. Engine looks nice

You will need #3. My car did not have the heatshield, and the trans had never been out.

Without the sensor on the flywheel the car will not start. The Marelli ECU needs this for engine speed, without it, the Marelli does not even see the engine cranking so will not provide tach signal to Lucas FI ECU so no injector firing.

My car is getting a 4L60e ATM so if you need any more pics let me know.
