Default Driver side rear door won't unlock

Hi folks,

I have a 2002 Jaguar XJ8 - 4.0

I have a problem with the drivers side rear door - it won't unlock

The silver lock button on the door does not raise when the central locking button is pressed on the key fob. I cannot open the door by operating the interior door handle either.

Any ideas on how I can resolve this?

Many thanks!

Jim

Does the door unlock and open with the key and outside handle? If it does then you have most likely broken the cable that runs from the interior door handle to the lock mechanism.
You can do a search in the X308 section for door cable. There are plenty of step by step instructions for changing it. Its about $80.00 from Jagbits.

Roll the window down and PULL UP on the knob (hard). Maybe while operating the 'UNLOCK' keyfob button or have some work the locks from the driver's door.

Remove the door trim panel and lube all the latch linkage.
You will have to get aggressive with it.

So I have managed to pull the lock button up by pulling the interior door handle, which raises the silver button just proud of the collar, however the door remains steadfastly locked!

When I let go of the interior handle, the button returns to the locked position as if it were sprung.

Any other suggestions?

Think I'm gonna have to take it to my local Jag specialist.

Hey Jim,

Were you able to get this resolved? I have the same exact issue with my 2003 S-type for a week now, except my FOB also quit working AGAIN about a month ago.

So I took it in to my local garage, they stripped it down and opened it for me.

The solenoid that drives the door lock has given up the ghost on mine and needs replacing.

Hope this helps

Hi Jacki747, I see you have the X-Type Model.
You might get a better response to your question in the X-Type section of the Forum, here's the link:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x-type-x400-14/

Also if you add the year, model, milage and engine size in your signature.
This will benefit you over & over again when asking for help as it immediately shows any member what model / year you are asking about.
Hope you get it resolved and good luck.
Take care.
