Just bought this beautiful car. Previous owner did not drive it much and it was garage kept. My question is that should this car be driven fairly often. There are a couple little issues but passed smog and is driving fine. Just not sure how much to use it. It is not my main car.
If the car was infrequently used, check to see how old the tires are. Check the condition of the sidewalls looking for cracking. If you have a recent service history you can get a better idea of the condition of the car. My advice is the drive the car regularly. Not just a five minute jaunt to the store but for twenty or thirty miles at a time. Get the motor and transmission thoroughly warmed up, This will also keep the battery charged up. This will give you a better idea of the shape the car is in. I'm not saying that you can never run down the local Starbucks for a latte. just that these short runs should be balanced out by regular longer runs. Sitting and infrequent use doesn't help any car.
That's great looking car, enjoy it as much as you can.

I've moved your question from Jaguar Forums Feedback & Suggestion Centre to XJS forum. This is the place to post questions about your model.
The V12 loves to rev, the farther and faster you go the better. Look into friction modifiers, fuel cleaners and an italian tune up. I see your in Cali so lots of suppliers will be close by should you need parts etc.
Had the engine light come in today. Need to research how to test what the issue is. Seems to run fine. So much fun to drive because it is how cara should drive.
Does it have a trip computer in the centre, under the AC vent? If so, turn the ignition on, but don't start the car. The computer will display one or more FF codes in sequence, of FF followed by a 2 digit number, eg. FF44. Report back on what it says and we can tell you what it is.
It's not the radio, it's above the radio. Should show distance travelled, fuel used, average fuel economy etc, as well as a clock. Some cars have it but not all, others have an analogue clock in it's place.
The more I drove my '92 the smoother it seemed to run. I would drive yours as much as possible once you go through some of the basic maintenance items on it. If you don't have service records showing it's been done recently, I'd recommend new spark plugs, spark plug wires and a thorough inspection of the distributor cap and rotor for possible replacement.
The '89 and later V12s have the Marelli ignition system. Keeping these items properly maintained is vital. This forum can help you sort out about any issue you have with the car.
