1992 XJS gas hood struts

1992 XJS gas hood struts
Now that the car has been running well mechanically two summers in a row, I'm getting around to upgrades and small cosmetic changes.
When I purchased the car, the hood struts were not working
Has anyone installed newer aftermarket gas hood struts under their bonnet?
If so, are these the kind that once you unclip the hood, the hood then rises by itself?
This is what I'm looking for. Want to give the car a bit of appeal when open the hood to display tje engine. Was this already standard on a 92 XJS?
I'm also looking for the kind of hood strut that unlcips easily from the hood instead of having to unscrew it.
Finally I know that some of the XJS hood struts had locks on them. Where were they located and how did they work?
Was this lock on the struts for keeping the hood in the open position or to help keep it closed onto the clip that's attached to the car once it's lowered?
Can anyone direct me to an affordable option of hood struts that will allow the hood to rise on its own once unclipped?
I was looking at these two.

A link to the part would be great.
Thanks in advance!

I bought these off Amazon last year for my 94. They fit perfect and lift the hood and hold it open by them selves, same as original. Took about 1 min to install. Amazon seems to have a lot of parts for our Jags. I always check there first when looking for a part, since they usually have a good price. I even found a sun visor clip there! If you put in your year, model, etc. at the top of the page it will show you all parts available by category.

BadKat174,
The locking strut on the late facelift cars works by locking the strut when the bonnet is open. It then requires you to lower a bit, lift then relower the bonnet to close it. It's just one of the two struts (the LH one, I think?). Still available but very expensive from Jaguar.

Jaycee,
I see a review about this part on Amazon stating that the locking mechanism is only only on the passegner side. Is that correct? Expected shipping date is mid August. 8th through the 24th! Urggh! And that's the only shipping option.
Thanks for the suggestion though because it seems like a great deal.

He's one of the sellers that has came up a ton and so glad people shared their experiences because he is operating under multiple websites.
I am in the market for an aluminum radiator and will NOT be buying it from him lol

Ok folks. Thx for the help!
Looks like I'm going to go with one of these options listed below. Price seem fair on these? Am I overpaying?
There are so many options on the net and I know this seems like an insignificant part but don't want to buy the wrong part either. Not mechanically inclined whatsoever and want to install these myself.
Which one would you go for?
$31 for the pair. Cheapest option of the list. Doesn't specify the type of lock or if it has one?
https://www.amazon.com/Pieces-Tuff-S...ood+jaguar+xjs
$60 for the pair. Supposedly OEM and they actually line up with my VIN #. Doesn't say if it's gas charged but supposedly comes with all the original warning labels etc. Doesn't specify the type of lock or if it has one?
Jaguar XJS 1976 1992 Set of 2 Hood Struts Brand New BD 48027 | eBay
$59.40 for the pair. Direct fit with a cylinder lock on them. Website has tons of details on the product. Made in the USA. Heavily leaning towards this one

I put these aftermarket ones on about 2 years ago, and they work fine.

I don't think they did the locking mechanism until '93MY, so these are just standard gas charged struts, but have no problem holding the hood up.

Ok that's exactly what I wanted to know. Thanks! Not sure if mine is late facelift as it's right before chassis/Vin # 184671. Is that late facellift or early 92?

BadKat174,
You might want to contact the vendor on that second one and confirm exactly what you're getting. There seems to be some confusion in their description on the VIN and age range that they state, and also the part numbers.
BD48027 is the part number for the pair of struts that were fitted up to VIN 184671 (late 91)
BEC15544 is the single locking strut that was fitted from VIN 184672
BEC13515 is the single non-locking strut that was fitted from VIN 184672
The title of the advert seems to say they are the early BD48027, but the detail of the advert seems to say that it is 1 x the early strut and 1 x the late locking strut. That's a strange combination.

Thanks for the heads up but likely ordering the last one I listed by the end of the week.
