Default 1992 XJS V12 Breather Cap Replacement

Before I start cutting things to get it apart I thought I'd ask for guidance.

I cracked the rubber breather cap (PN 44386) when I was replacing all of the cooling hoses. I was able to find a new cap and have procured it.

When I went to take the old one off, i found that it is held on by a metal band (PN C4111629).

The first questions is, can I remove this metal band and reuse it? If so, how do I remove it?

I have been unable to find a new metal band anywhere. If the current one is not removable and reusable, what is the recommended way to hold the breather cap in place? I cannot find a hose clamp that is 1/4" wide.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Google "Oetiker clamps"

Your local home improvement store will have 'em, or a reasonable facsimile, in the plumbing section

Or you can you regular worm gear clamps

Cheers

Down here I found Wurth brand clamps had 6 mm wide bands.

That was 20+ years ago, maybe still around, made in Germany.

I even used a plastic "zip tie", black of course, on one of them, worked a treat.

Thanks for the advice and ideas.

I found 9mm wide screw clamps at FCP Euro. I used PN AFT-MH28. It is a little wider than the recess in the breather cap but it worked it's way into the slot as it tightened up.

For info, I ended up cutting the original clamp off. Then I had to cut the breather cap off as it was extremely hard from sitting on top of the engine for almost 30 years.

One other question. I took the screen canister out of the breather casting. Was able to pull it out with a pair of pliers. The canister appeared to be clogged. I cleaned the canister and reinstalled it. It now seems that my oil pressure gage reading is much more stable.

Is having a clear path for crankcase ventilation possibly related to more stable oil pressure gage readings or am I just engaging in wishful thinking?

Wishful thinking. But by cleaning the element, it should reduce possibility of oil leaks because of crankcase overpressure.

Ha, we wish, and NO its not related. Your need a STIFF drink.

We throw those canister filters, the whole system works better down here.

It's true. I was drinking when the thought crossed my mind that the two were related.

Hope the oil leaks less now though!
