Default 1996 XJS Wheel size the same as XJ12

Hello new member here. Glad to be on board and excited about my nused Jag 1996 XJS convertible, 4.0 engine, with 48K miles.

Wanted some opinions on the wheels. Mine are in decent shape though they have some scrape marks and some actually look like old gum stains.

Plan A - I was wondering if there is a way to buff them out? Or
Plan B - Purchase new or used spoked rims, many on XJ12s. Are they are same size?

Thanks,
Charlie (newbie)

You can have your wheels refinished to look new. I found a set of wheels for my 95 coupe on eBay and had them refinished to the diamond turned with the gold accents. Just Google road wheel refinishing for a good shop near you. All the top end body shops have someone that does theirs and so do the dealerships. My car had aftermarket wheels on it when I purchased it last August.

Will newer wheels from, say X300 or X308, fit the older XJS hubs?
Does anyone know if the later, larger wheels can substitute for the old 15" XJS wheels, ad do offsets, etc, match?

I believe a lot of the wheels from the XJ sedans through the 80's and up until about 1997 are going to fit. Wheels after that are hit and miss - the bolt patterns may be right, but the front hub on your XJS is a little long, and not all of the wheels after 1997 will fit over that long hub. It's tough to tell from pictures on the internet, but you can see that the earlier wheels (through 1997) generally allow more room for the hub.

As far as I know, the offset is compatible on all of those wheels. Many of them are 16" x 7", which will give you a wider selection of tires to choose from and better road manners when pushing the car around.

The XJ up to about 2003 have the same PCD (5X120.65) and bore 73.9 after that they changed and will not fit. You will most likely need to run spacers on the front wheels as the XJS uses a low offset.

Thank you all. These inputs are valuable to narrow my search.

I also have a 96 XJS convertible - I need to get new wheels on it. I like the BBS Diamond SPoke pattern like these ones: but they are 15" x 6.5" and the 96 calls for 16" x 7" - Does anyone know of a source where I might find such a thing? I've been looking, per this thread, for something that might be compatible at 16" from the XJ sedans online but having a hard time coming up with anything. Anybody else have this issue?

There was a 16" BBS-style wheel used in the mid/late 90's on the XJ sedans. They're out there! I believe they came in 16x7 and 16x8. One is harder to find than the other - can't remember which.

Both of the 16" lattice wheels (BBS looking style) are rare. The first half of production of the 94 xj12 had 8" wide ones which are forged and lighter then the 15" ones and 16x7 ones. the 94 xj12 changed to 20 spoke wheels in the second half of model year production. These 8" wide ones were also available on the sport option for the 90 xj6. These have a 33mm offset. I have a set of these i am going to refurb for my xjs. Took me a while to track down a set. The rears fit no problem, i have yet to fit wheels to the front as i am in process o rebuilding my front end. The 16x7 were standard on an xjs Le Mans special edition, I believe it wa 90 or 91. They also were also a rare option on facelift xjs cars.

86jag - thanks for the comprehensive post. Its already helped me find some of those 16x7 lattice BBS wheels. Much appreciated! Here, for instance: 1993 Jaguar XJ12 Rims, 1993 Jaguar XJ12 Wheels at OriginalWheels.com

FWIW, I don't think the 16x8 wheels will fit properly on the front. I had 16x7's on 1985 XJ6 (which I believe has the same front suspension) and the inside lip was really close to upper control arm when at full lock and also very close to the tie rod end.

Good luck though - I hope you can get it figured out!

FYI: Be careful with some of those wheel websites. There are a bunch of those sites with that same picture of those wheels, which are all a scam from one person, most of them have the same phone number. He has a ton of wheel websites which all have the same pictures and approx prices. They take your money when you purchase them but state they are out of stock and never refund you. There are a bunch of reviews on the websites So be a little cautious.

I ordered from one of those places once. My money was promptly refunded, but I learned that most of the Jaguar wheels are NOT in stock, and haven't been for years!
