Default 2 new problems this morning, stereo and window!

Hello, I broke the wiper arm off my other vehicle yesterday and as it was raining this morning I thought I'd take the Jag to work First issue I noticed was that the stereo stopped working on the driver's side, then on the other side the sound deteriorated into a garbled noise, this happens on cassette or radio - It's been quite wet recently, could water have got into somewhere it shouldn't?
The best one though is that when I closed the door after getting in I heard a metallic clanging sound as if something had fallen off, checked outside but saw nothing. Got to work and tried to open the window but it only went a third of the way down and now doesn't move at all - something metallic has fallen off inside the door, I can still hear the motor working but it doesn't appear to be attached to anything. What am I likely to find when I manage to get the door card off?!

Ok, I started taking the door card off and found that a lot of it was soaked in the places ringed on the photo. It was very wet on the ground and needed help supporting the card so ended up putting it back on but is this a known issue? Any ideas where the water could be getting in?
Many thanks for any help!

The water will be coming in through the quarter window or the door seal. My quater window was quite rusty where the large screws are just in front of the mirror control. I removed my windows and the area was full of silicone so the water could not drain directly through the door.

Solution - was to remove the silicone re-fit the windows with new rubbers. I also have new door cards as these are water damaged. I will be varnishing the new door cards and installing plastic to keep water from the speaker and door card.

Thanks for that Warren, I'm struggling to work out where the water is supposed to drain, read something somewhere about using talcum powder and a hose to find where the seals aren't working so might try that!

I had a similar issue. I would like to see a close up photo of the area on the door just after the gasket ends. Right in the area where that white button appears at the top of your door.

Also the stereo is now working today so it must have been wet yesterday.

I have a newer model, so my door looks different, but I think you are missing an essential piece to help keep the water routed away from this inside of the door. I've attached arrows that show where I suspect water is going.

Unfortunately water should hug the outer side of the door, it shouldn't mosey on over to the seal, or inner side of the door.

I'll attach a photo of my door tomorrow. I thought I had uploaded a photo previously, but apparently not.

Here's what I have on my door. It helps divert the water.

Is the carpet in the footwell or the drivers side kick panel wet? There are a few places it could be coming from. If the door seal in the area is good and well sealed the only other places are between the quarter window and chrome trim on the outside of the door, or through the front scuttle, water comes in the vent where the wipers are and if the drains are blocked can overflow into the footwell and the bottom of the A pillar.

I know this area well as mine had a bit of rust here and I had to rebuild this area on the RH side.

Does not look too bad, but once I opened it up the rust was bad and caused water leaks into the driverside lower A pillar and bottom of door. My door cards both sides are TOAST.

In the second pic you can see foam, remove this and you can see down the into the car in the lower A pillar

I used builders plastic to line the door in behind the window motor to keep any water away.

This is where the water is coming from. You can see where it has rusted the door. My door cards have been wet in exactly the same place as where you indicated on your photo. This area was full of silicone and the water had nowhere to go but down the door card. I have removed all of the silicone and will cover this with plastic and tape.

Sorry for not replying sooner, the weather hasn't been good enough when I've been out of work to look at this further yet - at least I have a cover for it now so it doesn't get worse.
Thanks for the pictures Warren, I understand yours was blocked with silicone but where should the water be draining? Should it be roughly where I've crudely drawn a blue line?!

No, I think that is where mine was draining when the bottom of the quarter window was full of sealer. My door cards are water damaged right down the front where you have drawn the blue line.

All I have done is seal up the small holes, you can see one where the top of your blue line is. The water can now drain directly through the door. It can not get on the window motor or the speaker as the plastic is behind them.

My theory is to allow the water direct access to the ground. If it can drain through the door and there is plenty of ventilation, it will also dry quickly and not stay moist and rust.
