Default 4L80E Swap

Hey all,

Does anybody know if a 4L80E from an XJR will fit onto the rear of an HE V12?

What models are interchangeable etc?

Cheers
Craig

The 6.0 V12 uses the 4L80E gearbox. If the bellhousing is the same as the 5.3, then it will likely bolt up.
Control module is another problem.

6 L bell housing is different and the 4L80e only came with a 6L. I would try to get an adapter kit for a 4L60e. The 4L80e is very heavy, parasitic and thus performance dulling. 4L60e by comparison weighs about a hundred pounds less has a shorter first gear and a design that robs less horsepower and can shift quicker. Basic upgrades on the 4L60 e makes them handle 450 horsepower with no problem.

As already mentioned the bellhousing is different. Modification to gearbox or transmission tunnel is also required for fit. Aftermarket control is available but l don't think any of them support 12 cylinder. This is not a problem if your car has marelli ignition but is with lucas.
I have 6 litre/ 4L80E combo in my 89 but you might be better off with the 4L60 as stated if bolting up to HE motor.

The 5.3L is a different bellhouse so the Jag 4L80 will not bolt directly to the V12 so a 4L60 would be a better option. I have a 4L60e and it works great, There are many TCU's available now and TCI has a good one. Mine uses a Megashift.
