Default 6 Litre V12 8C

Good morning,

I'm trying to identify a block. I'm posting here because that's where most of the discussion has been.

I've searched and found lots of charts and posts, lots of 6 litre engine beginning with 8D 8S 8W engines, but not an 8C

One of the heads is EAC 10531, and a lister quotes that as '93 6 litre, perhaps XJ40.

Can anyone suggest what this engine is from?

Thanks,
Rob

Are you sure that head isn't EBC10531 instead of EAC10531? The EBC head is listed as the left hand XJS 6.0 bare head.

Jaguar Service Bulletin JD 29/94, dated June 1994, says new spark plug leads and routing were introduced starting at 8D 11717 for the XJS, and 8C 13693 for the XJ12. So 8C is an XJ12 engine.

Thank you Jal !!!

I did make an error, it is EBC head not EAC, sorry.

This engine is now in an XJS, and due to the intall being unfinished, it was not readily apparent that it was a 6 litre. It was in the process of being changed to Lucas ignition.
I'll send pictures when I have them
Thanks,
Rob

I goofed again. I have a full page of scribbled notes and part numbers here, and referenced the wrong one, sorry.

The heads on this car are EAC 5231 and 5232. They may have been changed from original, but Arnoud says:

Anyone know what part number EBC 2457 corresponds to: 5.3HE or 6.0?
Not sure really…
The one on the '93 6.0 litre head I have sitting in the kitchen (as
you do is EAC5231–
Arnoud

When I go Jaguar's parts site, this number does not come up.

The other misleading thing is this engine has the fittings for a 5.3 oil cooler hoses, rather than full flow an XJ40 would have. It may be that the sump was changed to make it work in an XJS?

The mechanic who did the work is no longer with us.

Thanks,
Rob

"Anyone know what part number EBC 2457 corresponds to: 5.3HE or 6.0?"
According to my google search it is a 5.3 LHS (B bank) cylnder head

BUT according to this advertisement, the head would also fit a 6 litre!
https://www.welshent.com/Jaguar-Cyli...OS-P26788.aspx

XJS HE 5.3 V12 cylinder head pair. These are OEM Jaguar cylinder heads, new in the box. These are the heads only, with all other components available to purchase. Call 800-875-5247 for more information and to make a reasonable offer.

Alternate part#: EBC2456, EBC2457, RTC2970, RTC2971

*** This is an oversized item, and may require truck shipment. You will be contacted with any adjusted shipping methods or charges. ***
Fits:
  • XJS - (1975-1990)
  • XJS - Facelift (1991-1996)

The sump is the main thing different between the XJS and XJ12 V12s. So you are likely correct about the oil cooler setup.

I would trust the Jaguar Classic listings far more than that particular vendor. For example says it fits XJS from 1975-96, but we know that the early cars are flathead and the later ones are HE. You can't mix and match pre HE and HE components.

l currently have XJ12 6 litre engine #8C 11606 SG in my 89 XJRS. Been a while but l don't recall any issues at all with oil cooler or sump. It was certainly full flow cooler set up and straight bolt up to existing xjs oil cooler plumbing.
The sump is slightly different but fit in XJRS is not adversely affected. Dip stick now at rear LH of motor not mid point.
