85 xjs firing on one side
So I recently got this old sleeping beauty going again and it was running great after the new efi harness went in. The exaust is off up to the first cats and I can feel a constant flow from b bank and the a bank was running solid then I began feeling gaps in the exaust where a cylinder or two want firing now the exaust on a bank is just cold I can stick my finger into the cat and there is no heat at all lots of flow but compleatly cold
So I removed my aux igniton coil and the engine runs with no change does that indicate that coil is dead( also seems to have a lot of liquid in it when I shake it)
Or do the 85s not run a coil per side?
Or do the 85s not run a coil per side?
Correct, on the Lucas CEI igntion (which your '85 has) there is not a left bank coil and a right bank coil. Just primary and aux coils. The engine will run fine on just the primary until 3000 rpm or so.
Are the A-bank injectors clicking? A mechanic's stethoscope is useful here but a long screwdriver (or even rubber) hose between the injectors and your ear will do the trick.
If the injectors are not clicking then I suspect a problem with your new injector harness.

I cant see it being the harness as everything ran good right after it was installed. And now the entire A bank has no fire? Is the efi harness the only thing that can kill half the engine?

Well it seems to be pretty well narrowed to either the ecu not firing that side or my fuel pump is shot. Either way I'll do it when I get back from training talk to you all in a few months
Fuel pump? No. There's one pump for both banks. There's nothing about fuel supply that is bank sensitive.
Yeah, an ECU fault is possible, or an injector resistor pack fault as well.

well i feel like fuel pressure because if i prime the engine first and let the pressure build up she fires right up and jumps right to where she should be, and when i took her around the block she would get lots of power then die then jump back to life and take off then die and repeat. just to me feels like the fuel pressure jumping up and down, when i get back im going to install a fuel pressure gauge and see whats really happening in that area
Good idea on the pressure test.
One of the regulators might be failing. Or your fuel sump tank might be full of gunk. But neither of this would cause a problem exclusively one entire bank of cylinders.

MMMMM, I seriously doubt it is dropping one bank, although it probably feels like it.
Reading your next to most recent post, I suspect the TPS is going/gone flaky. Easily tested, and found in the archives, OR, ask and you will be instructed.
Blocked fuel filter is also high on my suspect list.
The vac hose travelling from the balance pipe TO the ECU may be blocked/split, and that will have the ECU go hissy very quickly.
The plug that inserts in the bottom of the injection resistor pack (in the engine bay behind the RH headlamp), is notorious for causing what you got, Reach in and unplug it, clean the plug with lemon juice, rinse with water, dry off, Dialectic grease applied and replug, tick off the "to do list".
