Default 88 HE Hose Location

Continuing diagnosis of white smoke from one side of exhaust.
Always starting the elementary stuff first, cap, rotor, plugs and wires. I can see that the B bank surely isn't burning as well as A.

The Vacuum hose that comes from the cap goes where? I can't see where it attaches, somewhere along the firewall? The hose is straight, but it's baffling me, advice and/or a pic would be well helpful. Thank you

The hose to the AAV has a hose nipple molded into it. One hose from the distributor cap goes there. This provides a small vacuum to pull air thru the distributor

The other hose from the distributor cap goes along the diagonal fender brace and terminates with a small open-end filter. This is the fresh air intake to the distributor.

Problem is, I'm having a brain fade as to which hose goes where on the cap itself. Others will chime in

Cheers

Thank you Doug, I know where the top hose goes. So the long one in the pic goes to the AAV?

The hose in your picture doesn't look long enough to reach either destination IMHO

The hose that goes into the bottom of the dizzy comes from the inlet, the hose that exits the dizzy cap higher up goes to the AAV hose nipple pipe. The idea is to ensure no explosive fumes build up inside the dizzy, by a small but constant "suck" though it into the inlet manifold when the car is running.

Perfect, just what I needed, Thank you much.
The hose Doug referred to isn't long enough, seems it was just hanging there down below the firewall. I'll make a connector and join the two together (other end has filter on it)

don't forget that white smoke can be generated by trans fluid entering the engine

this can be sucked up the trans vac line into one bank of the engine ( right bank ) , the vac valve on the trans can leak and provide the fluid that ends up in the engine

just another one to tick off the list

is it for explosive fumes ? or is it to disperse the ozone gas generated by the HT sparking in the cap , ozone will corrode the contacts if not removed causing high resistance and poor running,

how would ' explosive fumes ' get in the cap , as the engine is a sealed system not exposing anything that would combust

It was like this for about 15 mins, light blue now blowing then stalls with a no start.
Plugs, cap, rotor and wires just replaced, car runs very quiet. Whats next?

I may be mistaken, but I seem to remember reading somewhere that early XJSs did not have the venting system and that occasionally the dizzies blew to bits. The fumes come from engine oil via the shaft seal to the jackshaft, or even dizzy lube evaporating under the heat conditions, I always supposed. Also, ozone is an explosive gas, just like oxygen, so this might have been the source.
