89 5.3 to 6.0, engine tear down
Hey guys, have finally started disassembling the 94 6.0 I intend to put in my 89 XJS convertible. Have found most parts to complete Tremec 5 speed installation.
This evening, I got the A bank head off of this 127K mile 6.0 engine. The coolant passages are as clean as if it were new. There is literally 0 ridge at the top of the liner. I had prepared myself to go with the big bore conversion, or bore my existing liners and put in new pistons. But now, finding no ridge at the top of the liner makes me question replacing anything but the rings!
I plan on using the Emerald stand alone engine management. Those of you who know, is boring, or using the big bore kit really worth what it takes to do? I figure liners, pistons, rings, custom head gaskets could easily be 4K. For what gain? I really would like opinions here of those who have been there, done that. I love my V12s, and will settle for nothing less. I have really been wondering what a centrifugal supercharger would do for this engine, and what would need to be done to it, to run one. Thanks guys!
