89 xjs v 12 finally came to life
the 89 V 12 finally came to life yesterday after years if sitting and lots of rewiring. The no fuel issue was the input from the amplifier not being wired properly. Now the problem is that it will not idle. The lowest I can get to go is 1700RPM. I backed off both throttle stops at the intake and its still fast idles. The motor sounds good while running. Any suggestions for this problem will be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all that have helped so far to get to this point
You have air coming in from *somewhere*. Most likely the AuX Air Valve is stuck open. The inlet for the AAV is behind the left air filter. Block it off with your hand for a moment and see if the rpm drops

Doug is spot on as usual. You have a vacuum leak. I used carburator cleaner to find mine. It didn't change idle, but one thing I did locate,(if it is a Marelli car), was a small plastic elbow under the left side manifold had turned to useless debris. It ties into the same hose Doug is speaking of, ahead of the AAV. It is part of the venting system on the Marelli distributor. I replaced mine with a brass elbow.
The AAV is that on the left B bank side? Its new to me so I'll go have a look and see what I can up with. The vacuum system is a mess and I'm slowly getting a handle on that. Question!! the supplemental air solenoid on the right side near the fuel injector plug. What's it supposed to do and what is it connected to on both ends?
The AAV is on the left side. B bank, at the rear. I took mine off, and soaked it really good with penetrating fluid, then brought water to a boil on the stove. Using channel locks, I would submerge it in the boiling water, then take it out and run it under tap water. I repeated this cycle several times, and mine seems to work great for now.
How long have you dicked with it? My car sat up for 13 years and it took about 30 minutes to get to idle when I finally got it going. I just played with the throttle and let it rev up until it settled down enough and eventually idled. Most of my issue was with fuel though
If you're testing it with the air cleaner housings off, it sucks air in where the four bolts go air idles very fast.
